Local review site Yelp is not going to sit around and let competitor CitySearch have even a day to celebrate their new beta launch. CEO Jeremy Stopellman, noticing our Comscore comparison of the services - “According to comScore, Citysearch brought in 14.6 million unique visitors in the U.S in October, compared to 143 million uniques across its ad network. (Yelp, by the way, did 6 million uniques)” - emailed us with some of their internal ...

I have been a user of Yelp for a while and encourage people to switch from Citysearch (CS) all the time. CS hasn't updated their system in ages, my comments on establishments never get published and their "picks" never impress me. All businesses, large and small, should make sure they're on Yelp.

Citysearch, the popular local events and review site owned by IAC, is getting a big makeover tonight. The site is expanding to become “hyperlocal” – creating listings for more than 75,000 different cities, adding social features through Facebook Connect, and launching an enhanced mobile experience. Initially, the new features will be available on a separate beta site, where they’ll be refined before going live early next year. In integrating Facebook Connect, Citysearch is perhaps the ...

Celebrity chef Thomas Keller will not deign to acknowledge the existence of Yelp. But the New York Times has. While individual writeups on the user-written restaurant-reviews site may be goofy, biased, or contrafactual, on the whole they give potential diners a good idea of what to expect. And they are vastly more prolific than the pros: Megan Cress, a Yelper, has written 300 restaurant reviews in three years. Times critics take twice as long. We ...

In honor of the election day today, I’d like to give a quick tutorial on django-voting, a reusable application which gives you reddit-style voting capabilities on generic objects. Django-Voting, itself, is quite a very well documented piece of software. Then again, that’s not saying a lot considering its from Jonathan Buchannan. All of his projects are famously documented. Installation The installation of this application was standard fare for a CGC app. SVN Checkout the application ...
