Despite having written at length (some might say excessively) about the sorry fate of Yosemite's dwindling glaciers and the Sierra snowpack, I've always felt as though my posts were missing something -- a certain audio/visual oomph, you might say. Though I'm much too busy to visit Yosemite in person these days (I intend to do over the coming months, however), the fine folks at KQED have provided the ...

From Wired: An artist has released a 17-gigapixel image of Yosemite National Park that he says is the largest stitched-together panorama available. Gerard Maynard, a New York based painter and photographer, put together the ultra-high resolution composite using more than 2,000 individual photos that he took aided by a hacked old Pixorb motorized tripod head. Image by Borrowed Time You may or may not think you live in a competitive world. But if you look around you in your personal and professional lives, you will see there is competition on many levels. Personally, you compete for resources, material goods, time, attention, and energy. Professionally, you compete for jobs, promotions, clients, customers, recognition, and dollars. Where do you find yourself in competition on a daily basis? Is it in finding a ...

There is a lot of bad blood this year between Microsoft and Apple. Apple has aggressively launched a negative political-style marketing campaign against the PC giant. While this advertising blitz – you know, the “I’m a PC/I’m a Mac” shtick – has been well executed and very entertaining, it’s also had an uneXPected side-effect as well. In short, it’s lit a huge fire under the thousand or so people developing Microsoft’s next operating system, Windows ...

Yosemite Morning, photo by Harold Davis. View this image larger. Coming down from a night spent photographing star trails on Glacier Point, I hit the Valley floor about 6AM. I tucked into my sleeping bag, inserted the ear plugs, and slept for a solid hour or so. At about 7AM a deep rumbling noise penetrated the ear plugs and woke me. It was followed by sirens (what’s this, bears dancing on cars setting off their ...

It’s weird to read the New York Times to find this article on Ansel Adams on the front page. What did we just do? We spent two days in Yosemite with Michael Adams, Ansel’s son, who spent the better part of two days showing us around. I shot a TON of Qik/cell phone video with Michael. We also did a bunch of “pro” video with our expensive HD camcorders, those will be up soon as ...
