You can go back and see how Google's homepage evolved in the past 10 years. The video uses cached versions of Google's homepage from Internet Archive.Google's special site for the 10th birthday shows 17 of the most interesting homepage interfaces and Philipp Lenssen analyzes some of them. My favorite Google homepage is the one from April 1999 which only included a search box, two buttons and a link to "More Google!". If you like it, ...

Most of the recently released Google software uses live installers that download the required files from Google's servers and enable an auto-updater. Whether you want to install Chrome, Gears, Lively or Google Earth's plug-in, Google first downloads a small setup file that needs an Internet connection to obtain the software. The most important reason why Google doesn't provide offline installers for these applications is the auto-update software, which has a separate development cycle. Instead of integrating ...

By Michael Shields, Network Tools Team Here at Google, we use Python a great deal. The socket module from Python's standard library makes it possible to work with IPv4 addresses stored as integers or strings, but it doesn't allow you to easily work with subnets. And of course, since we support IPv6, we wanted to make working with v6 addresses as easy as v4.We're happy to let you know that ipaddr.py, our internal library for ...

“Rabbit rabbit” wasn’t part of my childhood. Alas, I grew up with the more painful “pinch punch first of the month…” What’s the deal with “rabbit rabbit”? You’ll have good luck all month if the first words you utter on the first of the month are “rabbit rabbit.” It’s extra lucky if it’s your birth month. Intrigued? There’s more poop on Wikipedia. It’s not too late for October — you can say it backwards before ...

Generally that means we need to examine a bunch of hardware registers and see how the device is configured. If you've never had to do this, let us assure you - it isn't much fun, especially when you have ...

Google brought back the index from January 2001 to show how many things have changed in almost 8 years. At that time, Google's index included 1,326,920,000 web pages and it was the most comprehensive index of a search engine.Google explains that the index from January 2001 is the earliest available.
