JavaRebel skips all the build and deploy crap. We’re using tapestry 4.0, which I can’t stand (especially the tacos stuff–but that’sa story for another time). I make my two line change in Intellij, then go back to my web browser and ...

My freezer is not exactly in its prime, and it suffers from ice buildup syndrome. I put stuff in there, all wrapped up and all, and a few weeks later everything's covered in frost like the beard of a North Pole explorer. And after a while, there's so much ice covering the shelves that I half expect to see penguins skating around. Part of my job, as this freezer's caregiver, is to defrost it regularly ...

Watchmen - Trailer 1A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, the film is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot ...

One day, you may be lucky enough to have a scarcity problem. A product or a service or even a job that's in such high demand that people are clamoring for more than you can make. We can learn a lot from the abysmal performance of Apple this weekend. They took a hot product and totally botched the launch because of a misunderstanding of the benefits and uses of scarcity. First, understand that scarcity is ...

Waiting in line is a very old-school way of dealing with scarcity. And treating new customers like old customers, treating unknown customers the same as high-value customers is painful and unnecessary.

What bullshit. Stuff like that only strengthens following and Steve knows that. It makes the iPhone so much more valuable if you stood in line for it.

Seth totally rocks. Constructive criticism for marketers on how not to botch your product launch next time. This is great advice for those who may be doing product launch for the first time, too.

We prepared a short screencast that demonstrates how easy it is to develop Swing applications with JavaRebel. We used the simple Metalworks example (a multiwindow mail client mockup) that comes with the Java SDK and played around with adding fields and buttons. We start by launching the application with “-noverify -javaagent:javarebel.jar” added to the VM params in the Eclipse launch profile. We first add new field “BCC”, which immediately appears in a new window. We ...

Apple and AT&T will cut $200 off the price of the iPhone 3G when it arrives this summer. The phones should hit at $399 and $499 for 8 and 16-gigabyte versions and the subsidy should drop the price to as low as $199. Fortune has also pseudo-confirmed a GPS chip inside the new phone.

Update: More on the deal here and here (email from Ballmer to all MS employees) It’s been rumored for a long time, but now it’s reality. Microsoft has made an unsolicited $44.6 billion bid for Yahoo. The bid, which would consist of cash and Microsoft stock, values Yahoo shares at $31 a share, a 62% premium on Thursdays closing price. Michael stated during his appearance on Fox Business this week that Yahoo could face a ...
