The browser-bearing world was atwitter yesterday with the announcement of Google’s Chrome browser. Just about overnight, they’ve managed to convince hordes of people that Chrome is the way to browse on your PC. Next step? They’re taking it mobile. According to an interview with Google co-founder Sergey Brin, the two projects will start working together more closely now that both are approached 1.0 releases, with the Android browser adopting much of Chrome’s inner workings. Chrome: Nice, But Not a “Killer” Browser Just Yet (8)

Over on OStatic, Sam Dean has put Google’s open-source Chrome browser (available for Windows users), through the paces. Deeming it “clean and complete for a beta version,” Dean dishes up an in-depth review: As promised, Chrome is focused on web applications and is tricked out to handle them nicely. While it may not be ready to act as a complete OS just yet, it lets you create shortcuts for your favorite web apps and run ...Shared by (jeff)isageek (52) Adam (39) Deep.ed (48) John Magnus (39) Mike F (460) Priyadarsan Venugopalan (17) ultraviolet (59) Wind (6)Contribute comment -
Why Did Google Abandon Firefox? (51)

Today Google unveiled Chrome, an open-source web browser built for web apps. The release begs the question: What happened to its relationship with Mozilla, its Mountain View, Calif.-based neighbor and formerly close collaborator on Firefox, the open-source upstart trying (and to some extent succeeding) to take a piece out of Internet Explorer? In addition to providing the majority of the non-profit Mozilla’s revenue through a deal to be the default search engine for the Firefox ...Shared by !!blue (13) (jeff)isageek (52) adam (972) Adam Maldonado (155) Alexander13 (467) Andrew Schott (73) Anu (5) Benjamin (1076) bhc3 (54) bittin (210) C.K. Google Chrome has been released and you can now finally try it. Developed in the past two years, the browser is barely noticeable after you open it. In the next post. I promise... " -John Battelle. I hear this from time to time -- that Google needs to buy Wikipedia. And aside from the very notion of anyone buying Wikipedia being silly (it's not something that can be acquired), it is also absolutely unnecessary. Everything that Wikipedia does is public information lying on top of the surface of the web. Google can, and does, reap tremendous benefit from Wikipedia being Wikipedia. The more content and knowledge that exists on the web, the better for *everyone* that scales their business with the size of the web. Google is the company that it is because it was one of the first to incorporate this into its DNA -- that it is better to help grow the entire ecosystem of the web, rather than try to control and "own" it directly.
