John McCain says that he's learning how to use a computer after having sparked off a mini-scandal earlier this year over his admission that he's computer illiterate: He's apparently a quick study, because he's now adept enough to to use Google Reader, Google's news aggregation service. Everything is moving to the cloud. As we enter the third decade of the Web we are seeing an increasing shift from native desktop applications towards Web-hosted clones that run in browsers. For example, a range of products such as Microsoft Office Live, Google Docs, Zoho, ThinkFree, DabbleDB, Basecamp, and many others now provide Web-based alternatives to the full range of familiar desktop office productivity apps. The same is true for an increasing range of ...

Updated: Today, Google is launching a new advocacy campaign, Free The Airwaves, an effort by the company to get some traction around white spaces, the tiny slivers of spectrum that resides in the 700 MHz band spectrum vacated by analog television’s switch to digital transmissions. It even launched a lobbying web site, though the “supported by Google” text needs a magnifying glass to be found. Google has been lobbying hard to get this spectrum unlicensed ...

So instead of just wondering about it, we spent some time asking questions and came up with a new product, something we are calling a ...

Last week, Jim Burton wrote a piece entitled, "UC: It's Not About Buying a New IP-PBX." I agree with Jim, which is usually the smart thing to do, but at least to me--Jim may disagree--his mantra doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy a new IP-PBX. It's just that the IP-PBX is not synonymous with Unified Communications.

It doesn't matter whom I intend to vote for. I think I told you the story before. I was raised in a strict Irish Catholic family in an affluent Boston suburb. The dinner table was the place to talk politics and religion. It was our family mandate that we don't talk about it elsewhere. Skip to the next scene. Thirty or so years later (after my entrée into understanding politics and religion) I'm a media ...
