McCain's VP Wants Creationism Taught in School (66)
on Wired Science (494) permalinkRepublican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin wants creationism taught in science classes. In a 2006 gubernatorial debate, the soon-to-be governor of Alaska trotted out the usual creationist education canard: "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of education. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both." Teaching evolution and creationism in a scientifically balanced way is simply impossible. Evolution is accepted by scientists as ...Shared by Alberto (358) Alex (449) andrew reedy (16) benh (141) bricman (106) bridgie (41) Casper (200) Chris Makarsky (79) Chris Messina (62) Chris Wilson (58) Dan (35) Dan Serfaty (50) Danny (45) Darren Barefoot (73) Darth Guru (88) Dave Huston (39) David (103) David Guerrero (12) Dean Steadman (29) Deirdra (5) digits12 (2089) Eric (56) Erika Napoletano (42) Francis P Bonnemere (4) Garsen (33) George Aranjuez (26) Huw (28) J.D. Canon EOS 50D Official: 15-Megapixel Prosumer DSLR Is First With Digic 4 Processor [DSLRs] (4)
on Gizmodo (17751) permalinkCanon's EOS 50D probably isn't the DSLR you were praying they would unveil at Photokina, but it does fill a gaping hole in their lineup between the low-end prosumer 40D and semi-pro 5D. The 15-megapixel shooter is their first DSLR with the Digic 4 processor, which has a few new light-oriented tricks up its sleeve, like lens peripheral illumination correction—it corrects for light fall-off at the edges of the lens—and it can more automagically brighten ...

- gbraad said: Although I am not really a fan of the Android platform, I do think it has significance in the current handset market. It resembles a lot of the earlier EPOC operating system (which is now known as Symbian). If the sourcecode of Android will be released, I am sure a lot of it will be ported to the Maemo platform... and perhaps even to Symbian? In the message below, you will see what I think are the most noteworthy information from the referring links. Especially the missing functionality; no GTalkService so also no Jingle support. Why couldn't they provide a general XMPP library?!?? And missing Bluetooth support?!? Removed Functionality * Due to significant API changes in the upstream open-source project and due to the timeline of getting certain Bluetooth profile implementations certified, a comprehensive Bluetooth API will not be possible or present in Android 1.0. * Due to the security risks inherent in accepting arbitrary data from "outside" the device, the data messaging facility of the GTalkService will not be present in Android 1.0. The GTalkService will provide connectivity to Google's servers for Google Talk instant messaging, but the API has been removed from this release while we improve the service. Note that this will be a Google-specific service and is not part of the core of Android. * We know that these changes will affect many developers who have worked with the prior early looks at the SDK, and we are very sorry for the resulting inconvenience. We look forward to the possibilty of restoring some or all of this functionality in a later version of the Android platform.TimelineTo orient yourself, consult this brief timeline. Read on for details on these milestones. * Q3 - Q4 2008 - Android 1.0 SDK release 1 available (first actual 1.0-compatible SDK) * Q4 2008 - Source code released
