Michael Moore appears to be using bootlegging to ensure distribution of his latest film, Slacker Uprising, outside the US and Canada. Torrentfreak reports that the film is actively being shared on bitTorrent around the world, despite only being freely available from the official source to people in the US and Canada. “What do you think I’m up to? I know it may not be obvious to most, but I think you guys get it,” said ...

One of the things I love about the blogging community is how there’s such a diversity of approaches being tried by successful bloggers in their pursuits. Take for instance two well known bloggers - Timothy Ferriss and Gary Vaynerchuk. Both take different approaches but both have been very successful in building strong online presence. Timothy is famous for his book The 4-Hour Workweek a book looking at the simplification of life, outsourcing and focusing upon ...

From the Forbes 400 list, the following are the billionaires who made their money on businesses whose products are primarily free to consumers: (Note: I didn't include diversified media tycoons, such as Rupert Murdoch and Barry Diller, even though much of their business is free-to-air broadcast and web media. That's because it's too hard to separate the free bits from their pay-media businesses, or to say which is bigger.) #13 Sergey Brin $15.9 billion, Google ...

Some web companies today are now offering “video marketing campaigns” by repurposing stock video or video templates, and then promising their customers that these videos will get them lots of traffic and customers in the search engines. While these offerings are enticing to many companies looking for a low budget entry point, they are wholly unsuccessful from an online performance standpoint of bring new traffic. This ends up not only creating unrealistic (and unachievable) expectations ...

Weddings aren’t all faith, love and happiness. There’s usually a bit of abject terror mixed in and something - be it the bridesmaid’s dresses, the flowers or the dj - from hell itself. Case in point: A rivalry between two wedding podcasters has devolved into a battle to the death - at least for one of the podcasts. In 2006, New Jersey wedding videographer Robert Ehrlich and his wife started a podcast, creating a website ...

Most of us walk through life with an average memory, remembering for the most part the things that we should and glossing over the rest...or allowing our smart phones to be the safety net. While the Internet is now often blamed for our shoddy memories (who needs to remember anything when you can just Google it?), the Internet's memory system actually mimics the human brain. So-called "caching" technology for example, replicates short term memory, temporarily ...

The best advice any location mixer and post sound mixer can give to directors is simple: listen. Stop and listen to the set, listen to the room, listen to the exterior and listen critically. If you hear traffic, you’ll record traffic. If you hear hums or A/C you’ll record hum and A/C. Sounds logical but often, in the haste to “get the shot” no one is listening – to the rooms or the recordist. As ...

Ask and ye shall receive. I’m a big proponent of that saying, and I ask questions often and consistently. After all, if I never ask, I’ll never know or learn, right? We recently handed out guns to our readers and asked for feedback on our design, theme and blog features. The comment section lit up, with everyone camped out and taking shots at our domain. It was great, and the feedback was extremely valuable. There’s ...
