Why I still don’t use Facebook (3)

I have 251 “friends” on Facebook. That’s incredible to me, since I never use Facebook. On my Facebook home page, I also have 103 friend requests I’m not likely to accept, 66 “other requests” I’ll probably never read and four suggestions about which I have no intention of learning. Once, I probably could be accused of not “getting” Facebook. That’s not true anymore. I get it. I think it’s not only a great way for ...Contribute comment -

Amazon Kindle Redesign Shows Its Face (20)

Is Amazon’s chief spokesman Craig Berman going to keep to the word he gave in August when he claimed that a new version of the Kindle e-book reader would not be available until “sometime next year at the earliest”? If so, Friday night’s big tease featuring a new size and shape is going to have a lot of holiday shoppers feeling thoroughly dismayed. Unless of course they thorough detest the visual refresh that’s been made. ...Shared by Andrew Trinh (73) Ben Turner (86) Bill Blaney (45) CogDog (38) dobata (328) Eric (55) iAlja (71) Ivo (20) Jrod (61) Keller (17) Le prof. Of all the companies and social platforms that showcased at Web 2.0 Expo NY, LiveWorld was definitely one of my favorites. Why? Because they were the only service that could explain that they understand how social media functioned and actually prove that their services provide a platform for conversation and interaction with their customers. LiveWorld, put simply, is a social marketing agency that lets large corporations use social networking to build their brands and business. ...Contribute comment -

Swirrl is a wiki-like application that was built using Semantic Web technologies and launched as a beta last week. We heard about it in the comments to our post about the lack of commercial RDF applications on the Web. As with most Semantic Web apps, it's a little difficult to describe what Swirrl is. On its homepage Swirrl is said to be "like a wiki, but better." The further explanation is that it's a web ...Shared by adrian cuthbert (1) AJ (254) Bradley (21) Dibau Naum h (3) diegomorelli (39) heidigoseek (16) Jill (42) jqueryboy (19) Kenley (14) Le prof. The post points out that like most semantic web apps, it's difficult to explain. It also points out that swirrl was difficult to use initially. But one comment that is key to semantic web, "The idea is that users will be entering semantic mark-up, without necessarily knowing they're doing it." I think this is where semantic web needs to be in order for it to work properly.

eBay was Web 2.0 before Web 2.0 was cool. Tim O’Reilly wrote a nice piece the other day Why Dell.com (was) More Enterprise 2.0 Than Dell IdeaStorm. Here’s a quote: I define Web 2.0 as the design of systems that harness network effects to get better the more people use them, or more colloquially, as “harnessing collective intelligence.” This includes explicit network-enabled collaboration, to ...Shared by Alex (46) Alex (119) Bruno Campagnolo de Paula (43) Claude (33) DOCBook Howto (178) Gordo (14) Greg (18) Heinz Wittenbrink (36) Jonathan (6) Justin Korn (33) Le prof.
