Filed under: Peripherals We'd say the jump from traditional optical mice to laser mice was pretty momentous, and it sounds like Microsoft is getting ready to jump again -- Microsoft Hardware put up a teaser this afternoon for a September 9th announcement featuring the tagline "Say Goodbye to Laser." Yeah, that's not exactly subtle, is it? We're hoping a return to old-school trackballs with grimy little wheels is in order, but we're just sentimentalists at ...

Yeah, those times are over -- check out these silicone cases for a fourth-gen iPod nano and second-gen iPod touch that just appeared on Alibaba. We're not totally sold on the touch cases, but the nanos look way more legit, ...

Speculation about Twitter’s new round of financing is leading everyone to speculate on Twitter’s actual penetration into the “mainstream,” or lack thereof. Hitwise says web visits have increased 8x in the last year, albeit from a minuscule base. Compete shows about 900,000 U.S. monthly website visitors. Comscore puts the worldwide number at 1.3 million unique monthly visitors in March. None of that data is particularly useful, since so much of the action on Twitter occurs ...

Some Poles calling themselves Project Piwo have been creating huge animations using the windows of Soviet era bloks and the larger office buildings around Poland. In this video, they recreate the James Bond opening by flashing lights throughout the building. Next up: turning the Palac Kultury into a scathing commentary on post-Communist Polska by making it look like a mug of kompot.

The emphasis is on useful, as new services in this field emerge all the time - yet most of them look like useless clones to me. But Swurl absolutely isn’t one of them. Ryan and Jonathan from San Diego have developed a lifecasting tool that aggregates your online activity in a blog-like diary. Although there’s a comment function, ...
