Filed under: Transportation Toyota hasn't made a huge secret of its plans to develop and sell a plug-in version of the Prius, and it the wheels are turning a little faster than we've heard -- fleet testing of plug-in models has been pushed up to early 2009, with the goal of having "several hundred" on the road by the end of the year. Still no timetable for actual retail sales, so you'll have to be ...

Since I already have the breast-shaped gel dispenser installed in my shower, I think I may get this 9-inch-high Nose Shower Gel to put it in my kitchen and dispense lime Jello Mello. Too bad it only exudes gel out of the right nostril, though, because it would make an excellent ketchup and mustard dispenser for just $17.95. [Potpourri via Dark Roasted Blend]

Jennifer Oullette has put together a pop-sci book meme (and John Lynch has joined in). It's the usual thing, a long list of books and you're supposed to highlight the ones you've read, this time with the theme being that they're all about science somehow. I detect a physics bias in Ms. Oullette's choices, however, despite the excellent beginning — and it's to that I ascribe my poor performance. That and some weird choices: since ...

No, this is not a bad joke. An Italian priest is starting the online beauty pageant Miss Sister 2008. Nuns register online and attach a photograph (with or without the traditional veil) to get featured on Rev. Antonio Rungi's blog. And while the Associate of Catholic teachers made a public statement against the site, Rungi feels that there's nothing wrong with the idea at all, despite this picture we found on the web: We are ...

All the nuns I knew in my youth were scary. They wore coke-bottle thick glasses, had hair on their upper lips, and hated children. None of them bore the slightest resemblance to Sally Field. She was the only nun I liked. Her and the real "Singing Nun", whose album we had as children. "Dominique-a-niqe-a-nique..."

Calopteryx writes "Want to live a little longer? Get a second wife. A study reported in New Scientist suggests that men from polygamous cultures outlive those from monogamous ones. After accounting for socioeconomic differences, men aged over 60 from 140 countries that practice polygamy to varying degrees lived on average 12% longer than men from 49 mostly monogamous nations."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

The electric-sheep lawnmower may have tickled your fancy, but this Muwi concept mower from designer Yuli Sung will have you scratching your head. The concept's roughly the same as the sheep: It automatically assesses the grassy areas, and then cuts the lawn without supervision required. Cunningly, it grabs the grass cuttings inside where they won't lie around setting off people's hay-fever. But then it does something strange... it compacts the cuttings into toys. Scratching yet? ...
