Last night, twenty well-dressed “giants” gathered outside of Butler Library on College Walk to show their commitment to Phi Kappa Alpha by engaging in a laundry list of group-bonding activities. Orchestrating the group was a PKA brother, who commanded the pledges to respond at his every whim. According to the Bwog, the men were given four tasks by their master over the course of their excursion into the neighborhood surrounding Columbia: 1. Yell that they ...

The good news is that the freelance American journalists who went missing in Lebanon earlier this month have been found... in a Syrian jail. Yesterday, just a day after the US Embassy in Lebanon announced that Talyor Luck and Holli Chmela had disappeared sometime after leaving Beirut on October 1st for the northern city of Tripoli, the Syrian government revealed that they had arrested the two of them sneaking into the country without a visa ...

AXE Body Spray, the cologne of choice for rapists and lonely teens, scandalized the entire nation of India last month when it started running its ads there showing a man made of chocolate who walks around being eaten by women. It was all to promote their chocolate scent, to which I hope never to be exposed. Here in America, where reporters are more jaded, the company had to take more drastic measures to get attention: ...

After Tuesday's debate, one study of undecided voters showed that 35% of them considered the outcome of the debate a tie. A tie? I can imagine believing that Obama won. I can concede that some people thought McCain won. But a tie? How could a rational person call it a tie? Of course, they didn't really mean it was a tie. Just like the prospects who don't buy your stuff but don't say no aren't ...

Obama is booking a thirty-minute ad on all the national networks, a week before the election. How much must that cost? I wonder how he's going to fill the time: maybe he could do some deals on tee-shirts and baseball caps.It actually sounds like a good, albeit expensive way to help some voters over the hump in that last week. There will be lots of voters who don't want to vote for McCain but aren't ...

Apparently Human Vs. Zombie Tag (HvZ) is a growing trend on college campuses. An HvZ game typically involves hundreds of students and runs 24 hours a day for days on end; dwindling numbers of humans try to fend off and outlast growing legions of zombies. The rules are fundamentally simple: Zombie tags human, human becomes a zombie. Unlike movie zombies, with shambling walks and undead makeup, zombies in the game just wear headbands to distinguish ...

Dubai is in the midst of a huge boom. "Somewhere between 15 to 25 percent of the 125,000 construction cranes currently operating in the world today are located in Dubai," Slate says. It has shopping malls and lively nightlife for your Western enjoyment—the New York Times called it a 2008 party destination. Foreign universities like Michigan State, American University in Dubai, and Harvard have set up branches there. There's even a Time Out Dubai!

Instead of making doe-eyes with boys, Meadmore has spent her young and older years reading, gardening, cooking, and listening to Radio 4's Woman's Hour. [Daily Mail]
