(flash video content)Ubiquity is an “experiment into connecting the Web with language in an attempt to find new user interfaces that could make it possible for everyone to do common Web tasks more quickly and easily.” It is very alpha stage level stuff, but pretty cool looking. Ubiquity for Firefox

User defined mash-ups from the browswer! Natural language construction. This feels like the Mac's QuickSilver for the browser. In fact, if it resided on a system level, rather than just the browser, it'd be that much more powerful. Also, the linked demo movie is great.

I haven't seen I.O.U.S.A. yet, but from the online bonus clips, it looks like it could be a good watch for you infographics junkies. The documentary examines the growing national debt and the consequences it will have on its citizens, so the source material sort of lends itself to plummeting time series charts with dramatic flare. Here's one showing personal savings rate over time: Deficits and social security over time: Debt-to-GDP projections: A $53 Trillion ...

Quick Note: The opening image above is not exactly a before/after of logos, more of a visual language before/after. I have always had a soft spot for orange sodas, there is something about the combination of magic syrup, orange and bubbles that is just fun. In Mexico the undisputed taste champion (at least in my personal tests) was Orange Crush and I guess the funky glass bottle it came in had something to do with ...

The Internet is running out of addresses. To get around this problem and a host of others not addressed in the existing Internet Protocol (IPv4),a new revision has been in development for years, called IPv6.Apple has a few tricks up its sleeve for pushing IPv6 adoption, and many Mac users are already chin deep in the technology without even knowing it

A reaction to McCain's recently announced technology policy. (Stupidly unclear in the video: the initial graph is U.S.'s global ranking in broadband penetration -- so starting high (#5) in 2000, and declining to #22 by 2008. The rankings are based on OECD data.) There's also a version at YouTube (but please watch in "high quality"). (I resisted the cheap shot "[sic]" at "and free to chose among broadband service providers." Will someone please get them ...

The days when Web pages were static collections of text and graphics are long past. But as the Web matures, there's a fierce competition over which technology will propel it into a medium for rich, interactive applications. On one side of the battle lines is the original Web page description technology called HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language. Over the years, its abilities were augmented first with JavaScript, a basic programming language, and later a JavaScript-on-steroids ...
