Filed under: Cellphones, Handhelds Nothing says "I'm mad as hell about my iPhone 3G's battery life and I'm not going to take it anymore" better than blasting it out of a loudspeaker. Bonus points for that loudspeaker being integrated with a battery pack, which in turn connects to your -- you guess it -- iPhone 3G (or original iPhone, if that's how you roll). Well, $44 to the folks at Brando will buy you that ...

Filed under: Desktops The two-inch-square Space Cube computer has apparently been making the rounds in Japan for some time now, but PC Pro has finally managed to sneak one into the UK and, thankfully for us, they've decided to share. This one packs a 300MHz NEC VR5701 processor, 64MB of RAM, a 1GB CompactFlash card, and a special version of Red Hat Linux, along with a single USB port, VGA out, built-in Ethernet and, most ...

Have you been following the mystery of the “iPhone girl”? A British iPhone user says he found a photo of a young Chinese girl pre-loaded on his new Apple device. Now, after days of speculation, the Chinese government-run media has confirmed the girl is a real factory employee. The China Internet Information Center says the girl works on an assembly line at a factory run by Foxconn in Southern China. They indicate that the picture ...

There’s a Facebook game pulling in $22,000 a day and it’s not an application from RockYou or Slide. It’s an independently developed game called Mob Wars, currently the 13th most popular app on Facebook. At least that’s what Developer Analytics, a Facebook service for developers and marketers, claims. Today, the company released its first ranking of the top twenty Facebook applications, ordered by monetization potential. Its numbers are not quite consistent with VentureBeat’s earlier reporting, ...

Just like Radio Shack's, this one lists ...

Back in the country, and back on the internet. Couple of reasons for blog lite (or, truth be told, blog zero) over the last two weeks. I’m shooting a Geographic story and they moved the sked up one month on me, which takes away a month for scheduling field time. Kinda compresses things. Another is I’ve been writing like a banshee on my new book, due in December, The Hot Shoe Diaries, Creative Applications of ...

I am such a sucker for new low noise reducing techniques. The reason for that is because I love shooting those really high ISO's. Man, the new Nikon's really make it a kick, too. But, we all know there are inherently noise issues when pushing the high ISO envelope. What are some of the best ways to reduce the noise while still preserving, even enhancing the image quality? Here are three links that will show you ...

No doubt, the Beijing Olympics were full of one surprise after another. Here’s one final step to seal the package: The nation used “weather modification technology” to try to keep rain away for the ceremonies, a Chinese news agency is reporting. Government scientists apparently fired nearly 250 rockets full of a “rain dispersal” chemical into the clouds prior to Sunday’s closing event. They used a combination of planes and ground-based launching devices to do the ...

If you havent read, ESPN has come out and said that they will be aggressively bidding for the retransmission rights for the next available Olympics, which will be in 2016. Notice I didnt say TV rights. The battle for the Olympics rights will be in spreadsheet projections done by ESPN, NBC and probably DirecTV (my guess, not based on any info), that will have to take in to account what revenues can be generated on ...

Digg founder Kevin Rose has gotten a reputation as “the boy who cried ‘wolf’” recently with some of his Apple “leaks.” He was dead wrong about many of the specs for the initial iPhone despite having a “source” and then he was wrong again in talking about Apple-built IM/video chatting coming to the iPhone 3G prior to its launch. As such, I was hesitant to write about his latest Apple leaked news this weekend, but ...

That being said, there's always the brainwash approach to getting 'em in there, and if hordes of people were ever filed into the conceptual Ziggurat, Mother Earth would surely appreciate it. The 2.3-square kilometer building would be able to house over 1 million ...
