So, how should the Obama campaign handle the Palin selection, and what is a rather obvious play/pander for suburban women who supported Hillary Clinton? I think they should go easy on her for the next several days -- give the public some time for this all to sink in. Then really go after her, and do it in style. It is practically certain that on the night of Palin's speech on Wednesday, we will be ...

I just took off my analyst hat and reread what I wrote in that last post. Now I'm really kind of concerned.A completely unqualified creationist who has only served as Governor of a poorly-populated state for one and a half years could become the President of the United States.I still get a little "weirded out" by Obama's success; he's risen so far, so fast, that it's dizzying sometimes. But he's fought for it every step ...

MSNBC just noted that with Gustav likely to hit the Gulf Coast next week this could be a "split-screen convention" for the Republicans. A Gulf Coast hurricane disrupting the GOP's messaging during convention week -- three years after Katrina hit (the anniversary is tomorrow) -- the irony would be enough to make my head explode.

TPM Reader GR reports in from the field ... Just a small FYI about Kerry's speech. Kerry is running for re-election here in Mass. A couple of weeks ago he swung by my little town of North Adams and gave what was an odd stump speech. It wasn't about him or his primary/general election opponent. His speech, given while standing on a chair in a local restaurant, was very similar to what he gave last ...

According to a new report, 200 million farmers use human shit as fertilizer for 49 million acres of land. The study, published by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), details how ten percent of the population, mostly in developing nations, eat grains and vegetables harvested from fields irrigated and fertilized with raw sewage. Traditional fertilizer and clean water is too expensive or simply unavailable in many places. From National Geographic: The report focused on poor ...

The Democrats have a HD broadcast of their convention, but only on some platforms, through a Microsoft product. Those fortunate enough to own the most modern technology (and (contrary to the norm) fortunate enough to have fast broadband) can get full convention coverage. The rest of America (to the extent they care, and the point may be related) are stuck with broadcasters coverage. From NPR to the networks, "coverage" means some ridiculous unprepared interview with ...

Sudarshan sez, "The Tamil language, widely spoken in the state of Tamil Nadu in south India, has a large body of pulp fiction. But it hasn't been available to non-Tamil speakers, until now. A new publishing house, Blaft translated a bunch of these stories and published an representative anthology of the stuff. I loved the book myself when I read it (I raved about it on my blog). The book has gone on to be ...

Hi Everyone, I run a web service for small farms that provides websites and ecommerce to farms across the country (see link below). The basic way it works is that each farmer has their own login and password and they can develop and update their site themselves without needing any technical skills. They choose and customize a template and then can use tools such as mailing lists, recipe manager, ecommerce, photo gallery, etc, etc. This ...
