AIG has decided to cancel a second pricey hotel party for their brokers after receiving another loan from the Federal Reserve for $37.8 billion dollars. AIG defended throwing a $400,000 week long bash for its top independent insurance agents and some AIG employees immediately after the bailout — claiming that these events were "standard industry practice" and that they must continue. They announced that they would go ahead with another event at the Half Moon ...

A rumor that's been floating around the web lately is that Google will offer RSS feeds for new results in basic web search. Today Search Engine Land confirmed that Google will "soon" offer this functionality. Why is this big news? Because there's no better way to keep track of new mentions of a company, person or concept online than through RSS. As Search Engine Land's Matt McGee points out in his post, Google is the ...

By Debbie Schlussel On Sunday, I posted video clips of two skits from the previous night's "Saturday Night Live." One video, about the Bailout, mocked Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and--to some degree--George W. Bush. It included examples of all the irresponsible, selfish people we're bailing out. The second video, from SNL's prologue, was a parody of the Biden-Palin debate which, while slightly mocking Joe Biden, was overwhelmingly against Palin. Yesterday evening, readers began e-mailing me ...

Even the reliably-liberal BBC says that deregulation wasn’t the cause of the financial crisis. Other liberal journalists like Washington Post columnist Sebastian Mallaby have made the same point. The government-sponsored mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac played a big role in spawning the mortgage crisis. Lawmakers like Barney Frank blocked crucial reforms that might have reined them in. Now, Frank is trying to change the subject, claiming that critics of Fannie and Freddie are, ...

CNN’s so-called Truth Squad, in two reports on Sunday and Monday by two different correspondents, labeled Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin "false" for stating that Barack Obama "sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country." The Squad, in their "fact-checking" of the Alaska governor, who was making a reference to left-wing terrorist William Ayers, obfuscated Obama’s past connections to the former leader of the Weather Underground. The Squad’s ...

Like many Google engineers, I’ve been running Google Chrome for several months. When I sat down with a blank piece of paper to write ...
