Now this is excellent. The NZ Herald has done a timeline of the developments in the NZ First funding saga, and it has links back to dozens of original stories. A great resource. Worth bookmarking. Hopefully they will keep it updated. Tags: anonymous donations, NZ Herald, Winston First

Pleased t' meetchya Levi. Did you know that I was a POW? The McCain-Palin campaign is looking less like a run for political office and more like some bizarre reality show hybrid of Jerry Springer and The Apprentice. Today McCain went out to the airport in St Paul to meet 18 year old Levi Johnston, the self-proclaimed redneck and father of Bristol Palin’s unborn child. While the Palin pick has gone over deliriously well with ...

The NZ Herald has reported on the comments by Electoral Commission CEO Helena Catt, which I blogged about yesterday. The head of the Electoral Commission has warned that the law she is charged with overseeing is having a “chilling effect” on public participation in the election. I would encourage people to keep that quote and at every Meet the Candidate’s Meeting they attend ask Labour, NZ First and Greens candidate a question along the lines ...

Photo by -bwr- A few months ago I wrote a post on how curiosity is a characteristic of great photographers. I was rereading this post earlier this week and began to ask myself a few questions: How do some people end up more curious than others? Is Curiosity a personality trait or can it be learned? How can I be more curious? As I pondered these questions I thought of the images that I see ...

A reader recorded this off Leighton Smith on NewstalkZB. A reader phoned in and sang a song about Winston. Leighton started off very cautious about it, saying one verse only but loved it so much as he heard it, let her sing the whole thing. The song is here: winnies-song. Michael Zimmerman of the Clergy Letter Project alerted me yesterday to a newspaper article discussing John McCain's VP pick, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s, stance on the evolution/creation issue. The piece is from the Anchorage Daily News and ran during the last gubernatorial race. I have previously written blog posts on the subject of intelligent design (ID) and young-earth creationism (YEC). The reason that well over 95% of the scientists of the world reject these approaches ...

The Daily Show does have a liberal bias (like most US media) but fuck it is still so very very funny. And their show tonight satirises the Obama obsession very nicely. They do a parody of the Obama biographical video that preceded his speech in their video called Barack Obama:He completes us. Highlights are: Obama as the cub in the Lion King How his story began 180 million years ago when the continents broke apart ...

Per my earlier discussion of avoiding the conventions, I didn’t watch Obama give the speech last night, but I did read it (it didn’t take the 40 minutes speaking it required), and I thought it was very good. On the GOP character attacks, it seems like he did a bit of a rope-a-dope strategy, taking hits through most of August so he could unload with effect in this speech, deflecting the various stupidities of the ...

Based in Germany and apparently launched just this month, Forestle is a search engine using Google’s Custom Search program. On their homepage they say, “Save 0.1 yd² of rainforest with each search you do at Forestle. So far we have already saved 25,024.6 yd² of rainforest!” Now when you do a search, the result shows a “Forbidden” message from Google, and above it Forestle prints this message: <<Google ended partnership with Forestle! Dear Forestle user, ...

"Toilets are necessary but not sufficient for success in the telecommunication industry" Succinctly delivered by Kjell Nordström of Funky Business fame. Water, electricity, and toilets are necessary for any organisation. As are accounting programs, CRM, ERP systems and (with time) any state-of-the-art enterprise software application. Those are the resources that any business can have, necessary but not sufficient. To quote his co-author Jonas Ridderstråle: "It's the ability to combine and recombine things that will make ...

Anthony Doesburg reviews “Connecting the Clouds” which is a history of the Internet in NZ, by Keith Newman. The book was launched last Thursday in Wellington. I was somewhat gutted I was in Auckland and unable to attend, as I actually helped commission the book, proposing some years ago to InternetNZ that we should get such a book written while all the original pioneers were still around. As Anthony notes, Keith Newman more than delivered, ...

The demand for SAP technology and functional consultants is near an all-time high. However, if you don’t already have an SAP job, building an SAP career remains a difficult undertaking. SAP certification and training is one way to prepare yourself for an SAP job, but recently readers are asking us how to choose between the various options available. One way to begin is by taking two classes directly from SAP: SAP NetWeaver is SAP’s technological ...
