Taking photographs vs. giving photographs (33)
on
Seth's Blog (1720) permalink
Things flip. Many cultures long viewed photographs with fear, worrying that a piece of the soul disappeared when a photo was taken. Today, celebrities hire publicists who have no other job but to get their photographs to appear in print. Oprah doesn't pay authors to appear on her show, they pay publicists for the privilege... even though they are "giving away" all the ideas in their book for free. It's a tricky line to walk. ...Shared by Adriana (25) aElian (20) AJ (255) Alex (19) Andrew Meyer (30) Andy (15) Ashwin (25) atul (153) Ben (3) Ben Shoemate (64) chrisbrogan.com (37) Colin (27) Dominik (47) Erik (15) grow (29) Igor (6) Lee (20) Matt Dickman (22) Mike (26) noel (28) Noelle (20) p0ps (52) ralph (22) ScorpFromHell (28) Steven Correy (83) Terence Lo (21) Thomas Smith (38) Todd (20) Waqas (19) Will Cole (19) wrburgess (19) Xdroot (88) Yuancheng (27)- Steven Correy said: I thought about that the last time I went to a shop, they ask me to put my camera in my bag. Michael Moore's Lawyers Think They Can Limit BitTorrent To Just US And Canada (10)

It's always amusing when people seem to think that geographic borders actually apply to the internet. We recently wrote about Michael Moore's plan to freely distribute his latest movie online, which supported Moore's earlier statements saying the greater the number of people who see his movies (for free or not), the better off he is. However, when the movie was finally released online, and users were told to share it, some were reasonably surprised that ...Shared by [Curtis W] (46) Adriana (25) Christopher Gizzi (46) Frog (21) Jamin (67) krs (20) Mike F (700) MrXcitement (2) nybble (29) TiTi (161)Contribute comment -
YouTube blocks Pat Condell’s attack on sharia in Britain (1)
permalinkVia PZ, Barry Duke at Freethinker reports that: The poison of shariah law which has begun infecting Britain is of considerable concern to many, not least British comedian Pat Condell, who posted an attack on this creeping Islamic threat on our legal system on YouTube. Condell, of course, does not mince his words, and his video predictably got up certain noses. So YouTube, to its shame, blocked it. However as John Gilmore famously said, “The ...Shared by Adriana (25)Contribute comment

Researchers have found evidence that Skype and Chinese partner TOM Online are monitoring text communications online for "sensitive" topics, and storing extensive logs on publicly-accessible servers.
