Another impressive LEGO build, nice illuminated accents -Real working (electronic) V8 engine made from Lego Technic. This is not a Lego set, but I completely designed and build it myself. Shortly after reaching the 50 project milestone, today the nxtprograms.com web site reached another milestone by turning one year old! So here is a one-candle birthday cake project to celebrate.The flame on the candle of the cake will "flicker" while the NXT plays the "Happy Birthday" song ,and when the song finishes, you can make a wish and blow out the candle. Depending on the task, I've either used a supply of cover art provided by Syndetics (a Bowker company) or cover images provided by Amazon. This is what the ill-fated Lego Spybotics should have been. Master Lego Mindstorms builder (and geek dad) Steve Hassenplug has come up with the easiest-to-program sumo bots ever. Use the new Mindstorms RFID sensor, he's created cards with pre-programmed attack and defense moves on them. University of Southern California engineer Behrokh Khoshnevis and colleagues are developing a 3D printer for houses. Called Contour Crafting, the system spits out layers of concrete to build a structure from the bottom up. Caterpillar is sponsoring Khoshnevis's research. Slate's Farhad Manjoo has some great tips for outsmarting the greedy, lying sensor in your printer that wants you to change the super-expensive cartridge before the ink runs out: This guy had also suspected that his Brother was lying to him, and he'd discovered a way to force it to fess up.
