If you game in an igloo and have a USB connection, have we got a gadget for you: Heated gaming gloves. Jack these babies into two USB ports and they'll warm your hands by another 10 degrees in five minutes. They have the cut-out fingertips to give you that hobo-warming-his-hands-over-a-trashcan-fire style. Considering the U.S. economy, it's the "it" look of 2008. I had no idea this was such a common problem that someone would create ...

Yes, yes, we get it already: the Republican Prez/Veep ticket looks just like Colonel Tigh and President Roslin from Battlestar Galactica. In what is either a sign that BSG has achieved cultural critical mass or that at least one of the two Republican nominees to office is actually an alcoholic robot, the similarities between the two pairs seemed to be one of the most common commentaries about McCain's choice of Sarah Palin for Vice President ...

You know, if Palin's the Roslin of the ticket, that might mean some bad guys'll go out the airlock and she's willing to connive and manipulate without limit. I might back this after all.

Regardless of what I think of Too Human as an action RPG*, there's no denying that it contains some of the most memorable writing in a computer game since Richter barged in on Dracula and was told something about a man being a miserable pile of secrets. Early on in Too Human, I was sent scrambling for a pencil because I couldn't quite believe what I'd heard. I made sure to keep it handy throughout. After ...

I woke up today and found two pieces of good news on the internet: Rush's Moving Pictures has been delayed, perhaps for months, and Stevie Ray Vaughn's Texas Flood is on the way. I love me some white-person blues, and this will keep me happy and my housemates amused 'till they get that Creedence Clearwater Revival Track Pack up and running. I've been reading Mitch Krpata's excellent “New Taxonomy of Gamers” series this week (which ...

Jonathan Blow, designer of Braid, is a smart guy. I think he makes a lot of good points, and I dig his game. But his reaction to the game's reception is drastically wrong, as evidenced in his interview with the AV Club: And so even prior to the release of Braid, I go back and I read - I've read a lot of these blogs, hoping to read good game criticism. And it was way ...

Ah, it’s a flashback to Bjork & PJ Harvey’s 1994 Brit Awards collaborative performance. It starts out as the most dour cover of “Satisfaction” imaginable and then denigrates into the kind of controlled musical chaos in which Bjork specializes. We feel that if Natalie Portman’s character in “Garden State” had listened to more Bjork her life would have been changed in an entirely different way.

It’s always troubled me how willing people are to accept in-game advertising. Advertising in general bothers me deeply, but whenever I try to explain the problem, I never feel satisfied with my explanation. Perhaps a little bit of ranting makes all the difference. This week on their podcast, Jeff Roberts and Casey Muratori explained the situation very well. (Both Jeff and Casey are in the credits for Braid, for those looking for a Braid connection ...
