Ballou Pont Party Originally uploaded by fredwilson. I got my start in the venture business with a summer job in 1986. Back then the way you got in to see a VC was you sent (via mail) a business plan. It was read (often by me) and if it met with approval, you got invited in to pitch. There were ways to bypass that process. If you knew someone who knew a partner at the ...Shared by afroginthevalley (4) Alex (8) atul (75) John (17) kan65535 (7) rightantler (17) Rob (132) Sue (33) Zaki (57)- afroginthevalley said: +5 insightful

by Jon Gos When Leonardo Da Vinci attempted to build the world’s first robot in 1495, his inspiration had come from the ancient Greek texts of Ctesibus and Vitruvius. 7 Uncannily Obvious Lessons From A Product Launch (2)

A few days ago, my startup HubSpot, launched a new app called Press Release Grader. It's not our core product, but a free tool for marketers and PR folks to analyze a press release and provide suggestions. The launch has gone exceptionally well for us (and by that, I mean, the uptake in the community is much, much better than we were expecting). Would put some stats here, but it'd seem a bit like bragging ...Contribute comment -
Why we skip Photoshop (13)

When designing a UI we usually go right from a quick paper sketch to HTML/CSS. We skip the static Photoshop mockup. Here are a few reasons why we skip photoshop: You can’t click a Photoshop mockup. This is probably the number one reason we skip static mockups. They aren’t real. Paper isn’t real either, but paper doesn’t have that expectation. A Photoshop mockup is on your screen. If it’s on your screen it should work. ...Shared by Alex (8) Alex (20) Antonio (17) Bastien (30) Charleno Pires (71) Editweapon (10) Emanuele Guicciardi (9) Ernesto Jiménez (16) Muhammad Siyab (23) Siffring (12) urbansamoan (11) Vit Kolesnik (4) wmdmark (13)Contribute comment -

Don Dodge posted an interesting article recently on his blog titled "Web 2.0 = Bubble 2.0". The part that really caught my interest are the four "stages" of a bubble that he describes. Here's a quick summary: Stage 1: The smart money declares we are not in a bubble. Stage 2: People agree that we're in a bubble, but declare that there's still a year or two left to make real money. This weekend I was in NYC speaking at the AIGA Smart/Models conference (thanks again for the invite, Liz). One of the other speakers was a designer named Douglas Riccardi.
