Have you ever wanted to pool your money with friends or family to save toward a common goal? While it’s possible to do this with paper and pencil, it’d be easier if there were an online service to automagically track the savings for you. SmartyPig believes it is that service. SmartyPig is a special branded savings account from West Bank of Iowa specifically created to foster goal-oriented savings. From the site’s promotional material: SmartyPig is ...

My wife loves to cook and is quite talented at it, too (lucky me). She has gone through a fair amount of cooking magazine subscriptions to finally settle on the one she is currently enjoying. Cuisine at Home is a very straight-to-the-point magazine that has zero ads and tons of tips and recipes. I’ve always found it ridiculous as to how many ads are in magazines. Before you get to the first pages of content ...

Filed under: New titles, Warhammer Online, News items A thread/poll over at the Warhammer Alliance forums recently asked its denizens if they would be angry at Mythic Entertainment for charging money for the previously-cut Warhammer Online content via an expansion. The results appear to be drawn down the middle. While that may not be indicative of how the majority of players would feel about Mythic putting the previously talked about content in its first expansion, ...

Nintendo engineers are busily preparing new hardware, while trying not to break the concentration of Mario-in-Chief Satoru Iwata while he counts the $3.9 billion in sales and $992 million in profits they have made this quarter. "We are always preparing for the next hardware. We are under development," he declared. However, according to Chris Morris, he warned fans not to expect too much: Every hardware needs some revolutionary features. This time around, it happened to ...

As one of the most popular forms of communication in the world, SMS has become a favorite channel for advertisers to reach out to their audience. Everywhere we go, billboards and TV shows try to convince us that we should “Text MAGIC to 9340″, with promises of goodies like free ringtones and coupon codes. Now Tagga, a Canadian startup launching today, is looking to help you create your own SMS campaign. The service is currently ...

I’m currently reading the book Control through Communication: The Rise of System in American Management by JoAnne Yates. The book is dense, dry, and would be unfathomably boring to 99.9 percent of the world’s population. Just looking at its cover makes my husband yawn. Seeing as I’m an odd duck, however, I’ve become mildly obsessed with the second chapter of the text, “Communication Technology and the Growth of Internal Communication.” The title of the chapter ...

There I was, staring down at my lackluster boots with a sinking feeling in my stomach. It was day two of basic training and we had just been informed that we had one hour to get our boots as shiny as our cadre’s (each looked as if they were covered in glass)…or we weren’t going to like the repercussions. Never in my life had I shined a pair of shoes and now I was under ...

George probably deserved to be encased in Carbonite for corrupting the Star Wars Universe with Jar Jar Binks... but it's waaaay more satisfying seeing the floppy-eared one himself frozen in the same state, unable to frolic and waggle his tongue. Its actually part of an Industrial Light and Magic display, near Lucas's house, so maybe ILM think the same way too. [Geekologie] Photo: Pixdaus.

I love to read about the little tricks people use to force themselves to save money. Apparently I’m not the only one. Yesterday Jeff sent me a brief story from The Boston Globe that describes how Marie Franklin saves every five dollar bill she receives. She’s been doing this for three years, and in that time she’s managed to save $12,000. She writes: This idea will only work if you are disciplined. When I decided ...

A Resume in printed form can only tell you so much about a person. You get snippets about what people have accomplished or what degree they have, but nothing at all about the person. So that is why you have face to face interviews. In order to make it to the Interview you have to stand out among the crowd. In my employment area I am surrounded by many Universities, most of which are pumping out ...

The main article profiles a Philadelphia woman who made some bad choices, bought into the myth of easy credit, and now finds herself struggling with insurmountable debt. “I regret not dealing with my emotions instead of just shopping,” she says. Through compulsive spending and an unaffordable mortgage, ...

It’s time to start finding ways to use all that produce. Fresh zucchini is great when grilled with a bit of olive ...

Couple of news tidbits from the shadowy Wii homebrew scene today. First is what is supposedly the first custom Wii firmware that its author, Waninkoko, claims will allow the Wii to read burned DVDs without any hardware modification. And from the "just for the hell of it" department is a separate announcement of a PSP emulator running successfully on the Wii—albeit at a blazingly unplayable four to eight frames per second. The PSP emulator smells ...
