Prevent Motorcycle Theft with Protect 486 (1)
permalinkMarc Graells Ballve, a talented designer from Spain, came up with a creative way to protect your motorcycle from theft and bad weather. The idea behind Protect 486 is to prevent access to the motorcycle itself by entirely covering it with a protective “shell”. It is only a concept, but it is possible that someone will produce [...]Shared by EclecticDave (12)

LVM Snapshot Merging (1)
permalinkMikulas Patocka announced new patches introducing snapshot merging for the Linux kernel's logical volume manager. He explained, "snapshot merging allows you to merge snapshot content back into the original device. The most useful use for this feature is the possibility to rollback [the] state of the whole computer after [a] failed package upgrade, [or an] administrator's error". The patches are for the 2.6.26 kernel, with device mapper 1.02.27 and LVM2.2.02.39. Mikulas noted that there are ...Shared by EclecticDave (12)

Antti-Juhani Kaijanaho: SF encyclopedic wiki? (1)
permalinkI sometime wish I had access to an encyclopedia, written in wiki style so that it could be updated by anybody, that had an article about every SF story and novel ever written, and every fictional concept (like ansible, hyperspace etc) ever used in an SF story, and which crosslinked these in a useful manner. Often, once I’ve had a worldbuilding idea, I want to go read some of the key stories that use the ...Shared by EclecticDave (12)

eBay Has To Pay $63m Because A French Court Doesn't Know A Platform From A User (1)
on
Techdirt (928) permalink
A few weeks ago, we pointed out that a French court had made a very bad ruling, blaming eBay for actions of its users. The case involved the sale of counterfeit goods from LVMH. Rather than recognizing that eBay is just a platform and has no way of knowing whether products put up for sale by its users are legit or counterfeit, the court somehow ruled that eBay should know. Now the court has ruled ...Shared by EclecticDave (12)Contribute comment
