Introducing Ubiquity (375)

It Doesn’t Have to be This Way You’re writing an email to invite a friend to meet at a local San Francisco restaurant that neither of you has been to. You’d like to include a map. Today, this involves the disjointed tasks of message composition on a web-mail service, mapping the address on a map site, searching for reviews on the restaurant on a search engine, and ...Shared by _dot_ (118) Aaron (29) Abe Serrano (2) adam (1854) Adam Javůrek (27) Adam McDonald (42) ademar (22) Adrius Fortytwo (11) Adrock (6) Alasdair Watson (6) Alberto (41) Alberto Piccini (99) Aleksander (40) Alex Porter (15) Alexander Goldovsky (55) Allan Espinosa (35) Allison Kipta (181) Alp Çoker (10) AlvarezVal (38) Alvin (8) Amihai (179) Andre Figueiredo (11) Andrea Baresi (6) andreas (5) Andrew (28) Andrew (44) Andrew Cornett (15) Andrew Walkingshaw (18) Andy (30) Aneel (149) Anthony Bowyer-Lowe (24) Antoine Brunel (7) apinkpony (32) Archimedes Trajano (61) Armando (66) Arnaud Fischer (31) Art (272) baber (8) Babychen Mathew (1082) Baldgeekinmd (55) Barbara K. Se dice que está muy bien y que hay que ver el vídeo.Y como aún no he visto el vídeo... :)Actualización:Ya he visto el vídeo. Parece que sí, que puede ser interesante. ¿Por qué? Para qué te lo voy a contar si puedes ver el vídeo tú mismo, jeje.
- Eddie said: i've wanted something like this for a while now, if only for a command line interface to the web. yubnub is too slow, and is often down. firefox smart keywords are ok but require an extra bounce and extra (server-side) coding if i want to do anything fancy.

- Pradeep said: Awesome!Have been playing with it since yesterday evening. It is most certainly the Quicksilver (http://bit.ly/1XVYsZ) of the web. And they seem to be intent on revolutionizing the way we access the web. (Also, check out Adaptive Path's video for Mozilla Labs' concept web series: http://adaptivepath.com/aurora/)Install (https://people.mozilla.com/~avarma/ubiquity-0.1.xpi) and type "command-list" to get the complete list of built-in commands.Or ubiq "command-editor" and build your own commands. May be something to 'select a text, add a note and post-to-reader'!It's also possible to embed Ubiquity commands in webpages. How will the web react? Think of the possibilities for a frequent user on a massive destination like Amazon or Yahoo! They admit that the whole thing is "messy" and "cluttered" (sample: hyphenated commands) but I can firmly say that they are heading in the right direction.Hmmm...now, about the lost mojo...[http://bit.ly/3xtnj7]

Can Biden Out-Hillary Hillary? (2)
on FiveThirtyEight.com: Electoral Projections Done Right (200) permalinkThe principal rationale for selecting Hillary Clinton as Barack Obama's running mate is that she would have united Democrats behind their nominee at a time when they have a substantial advantage in party identification. John Kerry received 89 percent of the Democratic vote in 2004; if Barack Obama can get within a couple of points of that, even to 86 or 87 percent, he will be very difficult to defeat. However, Joe Biden might do nearly ...Shared by Chung (373) judson (27)Contribute comment

There is a free Wi-Fi downtown hotzone in Houston (1)
on MuniWireless (8) permalinkPeople who happen to be in downtown Houston will be surprised to discover free Wi-Fi service in certain areas, thanks to the city, which is using the excess capacity from the parking meter Wi-Fi network, to provide access to residents and visitors. To find out where there’s access, go to the Houston Wi-Fi map. Unlike Houston’s earlier plans to set up a citywide Wi-Fi network using EarthLink, the downtown hotzone is modest. Google Sinks $10 Million Into New Geothermal Technologies (34)
on TechCrunch (24223) permalinkGoogle’s philanthropic arms, Google.org, is investing a little over $10 million into the development of enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). Rather than extracting heat from the ground a few hundred feet down (or less) as traditional geothermal systems do, EGS goes several kilometers deep into the hot rock under the Earth. If we could tap just two percent of that heat under the continental United States, one MIT study estimates that would supply more than 2500 ...Shared by AJ (974) Alaska Report (43) Alex (438) Amer (24) Aron (19) b-rad (135) Brenton (15) CB (168) DXL (29) Hervé (76) HokieGeek (99) hyderabadblues (42) James (30) James (22) Jean (37) Jimmy (47) judson (27) Krrrazy (15) krynsky (82) kskobac (48) lmjabreu (119) Matt Warren (31) MetatronsCube (55) nicolas.boullosa (59) Patrick (167) Philip Velichko (35) ps1160 (99) Rex (590) Ricardo.Borelli (70) sammy (16) Shyam (36) Tomi (57) tvieira (2) Vez (22)

Comparing Apple's MobileMe Contrition with Google and Netflix (9)
on Daring Fireball (3440) permalinkAdam Engst nails it: Both MobileMe Mail and Google’s Gmail went down on 11-Aug-08 for a few hours. Apple’s recent email doesn’t mention that outage as part of the rocky transition, and the only acknowledgment I could find of it was a pair of entries in the MobileMe System Status page (bookmark this page, folks!). There was no mention of the outage on the semi-anonymous MobileMe Status blog at all, with the most recent posting ...
