Last week, the 174th Air Force Fighter Wing flew its last manned combat sortie over Iraq in F-16s, which have now been mothballed in favor of MQ-9 Reapers. This makes it the first combat-specific wing to ditch conventional aircraft entirely and toward a force of all unmanned robo-drones piloted from the ground. Welcome to the Skynet era, everyone! There are a few Wings currently manned by Predator UAVs, which can indeed carry Hellfire missiles, but ...

A lot of people talk about being environmentally friendly, but most of them are all talk. They still drive cars, power their homes with non-renewable energy, and buy products that have large carbon footprints. Where are the people who are serious about living green? They're living in Geos, the first fossil fuel free community in the USA. Coming soon to Arvada, Colorado, the development will feature 250 homes that use solar energy and efficient building ...

Researchers at Stanford University may have just gotten us one step closer to creating a cyborg. They've developed a new kind of artificial cornea, one that's "showing promise" in animal studies and could eliminate the need for cornea transplants completely. The cornea is made of two interwoven polymer gels — similar to the kind of squishy material that's in soft contact lenses. One layer provides durability while the other absorbs water, an important quality since ...

This is a video of a dinosaur on the loose in the LA Museum of Natural History. No computer effects used here, folks: it's all real. Well, I mean, it's not a real dinosaur of course or those kids would be totally devoured, but you know what I mean. If you look closely at the dinosaur you can see what's going on here. One thing's for certain: I want one, and I want one bad. ...

The machine has no moving parts, and uses hardware encrpytion to provide a secure link to the cloud (which is run by Amazon). To offset the costs of the cloud server, short ads are inserted whenever you open a program, but appear at no other time, to remain relatively unobtrusive. Though the device only has ...

Magnetic fields are all around us, but they're usually invisible. Not when British filmmakers Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt get a hold of them. Their film group, called Semiconductor, created "Magnetic Movie," where they've turned audio recordings of magnetic fields into arty animations. This innovative work won them honors as Best Film at Cutting Edge at the British Animation Awards 2008. Next, these creative filmmakers might want to scare up everyone with animation of the ...
