One of the bigger complaints to come out of Tuesday’s Android/G1 unveiling was the lack of desktop and PIM sync. When asked whether or not the G1 would support MS Exchange, the answer was along the lines of , “Well, no. We’re gonna leave that up to developers and third party guys.“ It was almost like a challenge was being put forth by Cole and friends. Who would be the first person or company to ...

Apparently you guys out there caused a big enough stink. Either that, or T-Mobile’s customer care was inundated with calls today. No longer putting a soft cap on the 3G data transfer amounts at 1GB, T-Mobile is doing what most of the other players are. They will address transfer usage as it happens on an almost case-by-case basis. Good for them! The new fine print: “To provide the best network experience for all of our ...

In sum, the G1 is a powerful, versatile device which will offer users a real alternative in the new handheld computing category the iPhone has occupied alone.

Disappointing that first Google Android-based phone won't support Microsoft Exchange servers.

The honeymoon high is starting to wear off for some as they start to look for all the things missing or that need improved. It’s no surprise to us - people do it for every device. In fact, if people aren’t picking on your device, it probably isn’t registering very well. Take a look at T-Mobile’s fine print and you might be convinced to wait out the G1 for a bit. If you are a ...

MG Siegler over at VentureBeat saw our post yesterday about Twitter activity surrounding Governor Palin's acceptance speech and asked if we could share more along those lines. Here is a graph showing Twitter mentions of each presidential and vice presidential candidate during their acceptance speeches at the DNC and RNC. McCain seems to be topping the chart but that's not necessarily a good thing—tweets can be both positive and negative.

Images from around the web are showing the HTC Dream AKA the T-Mobile G1 in all its bendy, screen-sliding glory. This Sidekick-like phone has a pop up screen, full QWERTY keyboard, and none of the buckets of suck that characterize Windows Mobile phones. Android is still fairly nascent so I worry that the application environment will be limited on launch but an open, powerful platform backed by a major, web-focused corporation is better than a ...

While I’m not a Friendfeed zealot like respected Steve Rubel, I’m seeing an opportunity for Friendfeed to help corporations further their social media efforts. If you’re not familiar with the Social Media Press Release (SMPR), it’s a process/document that helps press releases to not only carry the traditional content (who what when where why and how) of a company announcement, but it also provides links and assets to social media: blogs, images, videos, tags, etc. ...

The American media has been obsessively covering Michael Phelps on his quest to win eight gold medals this Olympiad - a feat that has never been accomplished. Up until now he has been perfect, managing to win his seventh medal by only .01 seconds in the 100-meter butterfly yesterday, and tying the previous record held by Mark Spitz since 1972. Tonight, the buildup will finally reach its climax as Phelps races for his eighth gold ...

What? CNN's breaking news account actually posts news as it breaks? Preposterous! (Also, people really need to be blaming NBC here. They've been showing the Phelps races live on the east coast, so these tweets aren't a problem here, but they delay it on the west coast so that it fits into primetime.)

I'm actually happy to see any media outlet using new technology to get the news out. It's surprising to see CNN doing this, they tend to be a little "brick and mortar" at times. Good for them.

After filing for an IPO last April in which it hoped to raise $400 million, Web hosting provider (and cloud-computing aspirant) Rackspace finally priced its IPO last night at $12.50 a share. That would have brought in $187.5 million, or half what it was hoping for. But it opened this morning at $10 (ticker: RAX). It’s been been going up since then to about $11. And Rackspace is a solid company financially. But in this ...
