I’ve snapped pics of a couple of things recently I thought I’d share. First up, I was checking out grills at my local Lowe’s, and saw this ad for an audio tour about the product. You just call in to the 800 number, and you get walked through the grill’s features while you’re standing there looking at it. I think stores used to have these things called “salespeople” that did this sort of thing, but ...

The battle lines have been drawn today. You’re with us or you’re against us. You’re cool and hip or lame and square. No, I’m not talking about political lines (for once), I’m talking about the early adopters versus the mainstream, or as Robert Scoble framed it: the passionates versus the non-passionates. What, though, is a passionate (sometimes referred to as an ‘evangelist’)? What is the definition of an early-adopter? Quite simply, and perhaps obviously, it’s ...

I'm lame and square. I cannot figure out what business purpose Twitter or Facebook or even Friend Feed would serve in my line of work. I'm currently within an IT department inside a financial firm. The marketing folks probably use Twitter and etc. to monitor what all the early adopters are saying about the firm, and maybe partake in the conversation, but there's no application for an IT department whose clients are all internal and whose conversations should definitely continue to be internal.

The Register reports that an astute Finn is offering a bastardized version of Google's search engine that ignores sites served up by Google itself. "Inspired by a recent New York Times piece that questioned whether the Mountain View search monopoly is morphing into a media company - which it is - Finnish blogger Timo Paloheimo promptly unveiled Google minus Google. Key in the word "YouTube," and the first result is Wikipedia." According to The Register, ...

EA Games pushes out an iPhone port Tetris, and sells it for $9.99. An independent developer goes and makes his own Tetris clone (as has been done on just about every single electronic device ever created since the dawn of man) called Tris and offers it for the world for free. This is all going to go perfectly smooth, right? Of course not. Tris’ developer Noah Witherspoon has received word from Apple legal that owners ...

I’ve often said, “were it not for Joe and Levi, I would have run this company into the ground long ago”. The fact is, truer words were seldom spoken. Here’s a list of ways that I’ve almost killed FreshBooks over the years: 1. Rafael Morgan's "UnsTable" gives the illusion that this piece of furniture may fall down, but in reality--and this isn't exactly giving away the recipe for making the Statue of Liberty disappear--each of the legs conceals a fixed metal bar, covered by movable cubes. We've covered Rafael's work here a couple times before--The Hope Table, and the Light Drop. Some nice touches of wit and delight. Hit the jump for an animated gif of the table ...
