We have seen a few different situations where product packaging is reused as a protective sleeve or even TV stand. Commendable efforts, but the fact still remains that most people choose to toss the foam, bubble wrap or whatever else is used for cushioning your new gadget during shipping. It looks like HP realizes this and is going down a different road when it comes to product packaging for their latest laptop. Sell it in ...

Okay, so you may not own the big plot of land you'll need to buy an old Boeing 747 jumbo jet and convert it into your very own home sweet home. And you may not have the deep pockets required to enjoy all the comforts of home available in the first class cabin of an Emirates A380 superjumbo. But if you happen to find yourself in Stockholm, Sweden later this year, you can probably afford ...

Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant. McCain campaign claims he was aware of this before selecting Palin as his VP, despite evidence and rampant speculation that Palin was not seriously vetted. Governor Palin is a strong supporter of abstinence-only sex education. Tom Eagleton lasted 18 days before withdrawing from the McGovern ticket in 1972. My money says Palin doesn’t last that long. ★

As mentioned earlier, Gov. Palin is embroiled in her own trooper-gate scandal up in Alaska. In short, she's accused of using her pull as governor to get her ex-brother-in-law fired as a state trooper. The brother-in-law is embroiled in an ugly divorce and custody with Palin's sister. And after his boss wouldn't fire the brother-in-law, she fired the boss. Palin originally insisted there was nothing to the story. More recently, she was forced to admit ...

I’ve had this recipe bookmarked for quite some time and finally got around to trying it last weekend—which means I can now attest that these homemade cookie sandwiches do indeed taste remarkably like Oreos. The recipe, found in Retro Deserts and posted on Culinarily Obsessed, allows me to indulge my chocolate-cookie-and-crème cravings without all that high-fructose corn syrup. Take that, Nabisco!

Next week's Texas Lawyer will have a good article on the current state of the Marshall Division patent docket by reporter Mary Alice Robbins, Eastern District Rocket Docket Decelerates in Marshall Division. The data and the trend is nothing new to local practitioners, but the quotes are a gem. "There are just so many cases, I can't handle them all," Judge Ward says, but notes that he no longer has to - Judge Everingham, who ...

Jackson Browne is suing John McCain for using his song "Running on Empty" in a campaign commercial without permission. Browne, perhaps rightly, believes that the usage implies that he supports McCain. Since he clearly does not, he wants to prohibit the campaign from showing the commercial—he's also asking for "unspecified damages."Browne's got a great case, but we wonder: Could the lawsuit backfire? Might McCain suddenly come across as younger and hipper on account of his ...

Like any good journalist, I want to cover the big story--unexpected events, the triumph of an underdog, a fantastic finish. But lately I'm getting less action than the movie critic for a community newspaper. July's On The Radar has few plot twists and a predictable finish. The Eastern District of Texas steals the show, the Central and Northern Districts of California give strong performances, and the rest of the top 10 has all-too-familiar casting. But ...

We're well aware of where some pop icons stand when it comes to the presidential candidates (the "Paris Hilton factor"), and now, we also know where our candidates stand on the issue of fave pop icons.Obama and McCain recently compared notes on pop culture, both agreeing that Batman is the most excellent superhero, but for divergent and respectively telling reasons. We also learn that McCain cried watching Bambi in 1942 and likes Curb Your Enthusiasm, ...

Kamikatsu, a small arboreal village in south-west Japan, has begun the arduous process of becoming Japan's first zero-waste community. By its target year of 2020, the village hopes to say sayonara to any incinerating or dumping. The experiment involves each household separating its waste into no fewer than 34 categories before it arrives at the village recycling center; a sort of Baskin Robbins of rubbish. Here’s a sample of the regulations:“Glass bottles must be relieved ...

LAS VEGAS -- Lawyers with the Electronic Frontier Foundation said a federal judge who granted a temporary restraining order on Saturday to halt a scheduled conference talk about security vulnerabilities came to "a very, very wrong conclusion." They said the judge's order constituted illegal prior restraint, which violated the speakers' First Amendment right to discuss important and legitimate academic research. "When you discuss security issues, if you are telling the truth, that should be something ...
