Passcode exploit (and fix) found for locked iPhones (4)
on Ars Technica Apple Section With Embedded Stories (11) permalinkA member of the MacRumors forums has discovered an exploit that allows anyone to make use of an iPhone even if it is password-protected. The method, which is surprisingly quite simple, involves touching the Emergency Call button on the passcode entry screen and then double-clicking the Home button. The default setting of the double-click is to bring up the owner's contact favorites, from which the sneaky user can access Mobile Safari, make phone calls, create ...Contribute comment

Ubiquity Prototype Offers a Natural Language Web Command Line [Featured Firefox Extension] (81)
on Lifehacker (33966) permalinkFirefox only: Mozilla Labs unveils the first prototype of a natural language web service connector called Ubiquity, a Firefox extension that adds a command panel to any web page. Ubiquity will look familiar to Quicksilver, Launchy, or Enso users: you invoke Ubiquity with a key combination and the text field drops down command suggestions as you type. Fake following (56)
on kottke.org (3755) permalinkThis is a little bit genius. One of the new features of FriendFeed (a Twitter-like thingie) is "fake following". That means you can friend someone but you don't see their updates. That way, it appears that you're paying attention to them when you're really not. Just like everyone does all the time in real life to maintain their sanity. Kodak Zi6 Pocket Video Camera (23)

(The Flip only shoots VGA at 30 fps, and uses a video codec that doesn’t work in iMovie.)
