Nine steps to Powerpoint magic (115)
on
Seth's Blog (1534) permalink
Perhaps you've experienced it. You do a presentation and it works. It works! That's the reason we keep coming back for more, that's why so many of us spend more time building and giving presentations than almost anything else we do. Here are some steps to achieve this level of PPT nirvana (Your mileage may vary. These are steps, not rules): Don't use Powerpoint at all. Most of the time, it's not necessary. It's underkill. ...Shared by Aaron (20) AJ (225) anarchist.tv // wortgefecht.net (25) andresmh (7) Andrew (1) Andrew Mitry (10) Andy (15) angol (53) Ashwin (21) atul (149) Avinash (15) B O (20) Badger Gravling (169) billspaced (20) Brad Davis Seal (34) Brandon (74) Brandon J. They're not horrible because they weren't designed by a professional, they're horrible because they are delivered by someone who is hiding what they came to say. The new trend of tweaking your slides with expensive graphic design doesn't solve this problem, it makes it worse. Give me an earnest amateur any day, please.'

I know some folks out there might have had trouble following the Vice Presidential debate. Particularly, trying to parse meaning from the things that Sarah Palin said. Dipity 2.0: It’s Like A Timeline View For FriendFeed (And It’s Fun) (21)

Dipity, a timeline-based lifestreaming aggregator, has launched its 2.0 release to the public. The new release includes a variety of new social features that have turned Dipity into a viable alternative to FriendFeed and other lifestreaming services, as well as a replacement for standard RSS readers. Dipity revolves around powerful timelines built in AJAX, which intuitively display content like blog posts, YouTube videos, and Flickr photos in small hovering rectangles that can be expanded. Using jQuery for Background Image Animations - Snook.ca (37)

After reading Dave Shea's article on CSS Sprites using jQuery to produce animation effects, I felt like playing around with things to see what could be done but accomplish it with a simpler HTML structure (no need for adding superfluous tags) and simpler code, too. There’s a graph that Obama supporters are sending around, showing the differences between the Republican and Democrat tax cut proposals. It shows that Obama is not in fact planning to raise taxes - he’s planning to cut them for all but the very, very rich. I couldn’t help but notice though - the graph is still massively weighted towards the interests of the super-rich. For example, the bottom two-thirds of the population are given only ...Shared by A. - Noah Brimhall said: This is a redrawing of a chart that appeared in the Washington Post that didn't really fairly represent the effect of McCain and Obama's tax plans. In reality, McCain offers almost nothing to 60% of the population, while Obama lowers or keeps taxes the same for 99% of the population. So unless you make more than $600,000/per year, you don't have anything to worry from an Obama tax plan.
