On media, broadcast and formats (2)
on acidlabs (10) permalinkA comment from PWC’s Tim Bull, on my summary of The Future of Media Summit prompted a lengthy reply from me. Tim argues for easy, usable media formats for non-early adopters. I agree. I think the issue of early adopters seeking data freedoms that aren’t needed, wanted or even cared about by later adopters that Tim raises is important, although I don’t necessarily agree with all he’s said. I think my views are worth jotting ...Shared by Des (4) Shane (74)Contribute comment

Escaping the Amish - Part 1 (52)
on The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss (75) permalinkIn February, I received an e-mail from a reader using a Columbia University address — Torah Bontrager — that ended curiously: “…and if you ever want to hear how I escaped the Amish, let me know.” Those peace-loving bearded folks from Witness? I called Torah, and after just a few minutes, I knew this post had to be written. For those of you who feel trapped because of a job or self-imposed obligations as an ...Shared by ~C4Chaos (213) Alex (13) Alpha (10) Bill (33) Brian (20) Brian (58) Chad (297) Chet K (1) Chris (13) Chris (0) Chris (152) cmm324 (8) Cody (68) colleen wainwright (12) Des (4) e.p.c. - Chris said: nothing too surprising if you've read about this culture before, but still good to be reminded. There are no such things as Amish Children or Christian Children or Muslim Children. There are only manipulated children of religious parents. Surely, kids may mature into adulthood and decide the religion they were raised into is the one they choose, but how much of that decision was based on the years of indoctrination? I feel sorry for children of Amish upbringing. How limited ones options must feel when attempting to enter modern society w/o years of practice using computers, internet and other modern tech. Good for her, though, for making it out and into Columbia.

Domain Shortcut Helps Type URLs in Your iPhone More Quickly (2)
on Lifehacker Australia (24) permalinkiPhone/iPod touch only: The iPhone has sported a .com keyboard shortcut for making quick work of URLs in Mobile Safari since it was released, but reader George points us to an expansion to this keyboard shortcut that can save tons of time for entering email addresses and non-.com URLs. Two seconds (55)
