Thought about it a bit more. Why not replace the RSS icon in address bars with a button that says "follow this page". Joe Average User might be more inclined to click on that than a funny orange square.I think I'm going to replace my in page rss icons with a little chiclet that says "follow my blog."

I've been saying for a while that "follow" is the word, acceptable to gramps because he's always followed the news and acceptable to l33t g33k because sexy twitter brought it back.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and do something I don’t typically do, which is guess the fate of something. But my gut tells me Ubiquity, a new project just announced on Mozilla Labs, is going to be a hell of a big deal. Ubiquity, in a nutshell, is a set of functions on top of the browser that allows the user to take data sources existing now, and being created now (i.e like ...

Mozilla on Tuesday released a public prototype of Ubiquity, a curious command-based interface to locating information on the Web and creating compilations of information from various sources. See: Mozilla offers do-it-yourself mashups for all. At the moment, it's most capable as a command-line browser. You press the hot key, ctrl-space, and you can just start typing lookup commands, like "imdb Blade Runner." Or, if text is already selected in the browser, your command will act ...

Since our initial review of Yahoo! Buzz earlier this year, not much has changed about the service. At the same time, however, the perception, acceptance, and impact of the service has changed drastically. The service has shown that it can send enormous amounts of traffic (very talkative traffic), and has displaced Digg as the most active 'social news' community. In the process, they added widgets and rss, and most recently (and most importantly) have opened ...

The social news and bookmarking site reddit today announced that it will allow its users to completely modify the CSS for their custom reddits, as well as pointing those sub-reddits to any domain they would like. You can now also choose your own header image and replace the reddit alien with your own creation. After opening up the sub-reddits and open-sourcing its code, this is yet another radical (but logical) step, and reddit's users are ...

In response to friend's quote: “Yahoo Answers suffered because of the insipid questions and answers. Sites like that need a curator to be of any worth.”Indeed. Y! Answers suffered because of the poor quality and tremendous amount of chat, but more than that, I feel it suffered from just a general lack of investment. It took off then Y! promptly moved all their engineering to one small team in Europe and took the content off their main SERP (search engine results page). It could possibly be driving a lot of traffic into core search and provide an engaging forum for people to connect around information. The goal isn't necessarily to use it as a "selection" resource to increase the scope of information online but rather to use it as an "engagement" asset to drive people to stay on the site and connect to others.

There's a rich market for Web sites and services on automotive topics. There are general content and community sites (for example, Edmunds, Autoblog, and CNET's Car Tech), marque-specific sites (AudiWorld), sites for car show-offs (Car Domain), and utility services (RepairPal; review). And now there's DriverSide, whose CEO wants to take them all on with a single site. DriverSide founder Trevor Traina ran down the things that car owners have to worry about: "repairs, insurance, recalls, ...
