The Shocking Inside Story of the Epic Defects That Killed Millions of Xbox 360s [Xbox 360] (66)

Gizmodo (3777) permalink
Dean Takahashi, one of the most respected tech journos around, spent years putting together this mind-blowing expose that reveals the truly epic scale of the problems that lead to millions of dead Xbox 360s. It really is one of the most stunning flustercucks in gaming history. According to his account, Microsoft willfully ignored deep, systemic problems in the console's production that reached from chipmakers—initially, only 16 out of every 100 of its IBM-made processors worked—to ...Shared by Adam (39) Adam Fuhrer (85) Adam Jefferson (9) Adam Maldonado (155) AKs (251) Avi (709) Brad Nadler (11) Brian Rossen (4) Brian Schwartz (13) Brian Wright (10) Buddy (7) Cai Chen (995) Chantal (55) Dan (2) Dave Keffler (71) DigitalMike (60) Dion Rodrigues (43) Doug Funny (68) Dylan Thomas (52) EJ (17) Elijah Bailey (46) Eric Chen (121) George Brickner (78) Great White Snark (16) hiro (9) Humberto Gonzalez (43) Jane Burt (15) Joey Doyle (14) Jonathan (33) Jordan Calhoun (8) kcearns (15) keith (76) Korayem (14) Kris (10) Kurt Nelson (16) Kyle Ingrelli (38) Lee (50) Leena (1060) Mark J. I visited each website from the list of Demo finalists. Boy, do they suck. Really, really suck. Does no one understand how to market themselves? It’s amazing to me that not a single Demo website has learned from the lessons of Gary Vaynerchuk’s Winelibrary.tv. Now THAT is a Website that knows how to market! Why Does Facebook Block Any Mention Of BugMeNot? (5)

Remember back about four years ago when all sorts of online publishers relied on bogus registrations and freaked out about services like BugMeNot that required registration? Over the past few years, BugMeNot has become a lot less essential, because a lot of publications have been getting rid of registration walls or at least providing real value for registering, rather than just forcing you to input bogus info. However, apparently the folks over at Facebook are ...Contribute comment -

Though it's in no way official, I happen to enjoy Google Blogoscoped's analysis of the Google Chrome logo and agree with the influences listed. In addition to the hodge podge of handheld Simons, Pokeballs, Firefox, webcams and Google logos, Neatorama also throws in the Sal-9000 eye from 2010 for good measure. It also kinda looks like that robot lamp from yesterday (obviously, they're not remotely related). Anything else this reminds you of? Help design a cipher for my crypto wedding-rings! (10)

When my wife and I started to plan our wedding, we inevitably turned to the question of rings, and it was only a matter of time before we came to the idea of rings with little wheels on them that could be used as crypto devices, in the manner of super-duper Captain Midnight Decoder Badges. So we asked Bruce Schneier for some advice and he suggested that if each ring had one static band and ...Shared by Chantal (55) Crutcher D (48) Eebs (23) Jon (27) Katie Fellows (36) Larry (12) Monsur (7) Olivier (48) vim (105) Zim (4)- Eebs said: This is one of the most romantic things I've ever seen.

NBC dumps Microsoft Silverlight after Olympics [Online Video] (71)

NBC streamed all its NBCOlympics.com videos using Microsoft's Silverlight backend tech, but the network dumped Microsoft before last night's NFL kickoff — streamed live over NBCSports.com and NFL.com — opting to use Adobe Flash instead. Why? Because, as SAI notes, while 40 million US visitors to NBCOlympics.com didn't have Silverlight installed, Adobe Flash is already installed on some 98 percent of Internet-connected computers. NBC's move didn't pay off last night. The feed was unwatchable over ...Shared by Adam McDonald (29) Adam Parnes (8) Adam R.
