Porn is and always has been a key component of the Internet -- 10% of all Web searches, according to Hitwise. But it used to be bigger -- and could be getting displaced by social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.Shared by adam (1018) complicious (77) Dan Frommer (2) Dragos Pirvu (656) Live Crunch (31) miasarmento (88) Mike Abundo (25) Mr. BabyMan (486) RyneNelson (41) Shell (234) Sherman (16) Tommaso (21) w0lfh0und (461) Zak M. 5 tech companies most immediately affected by the Meltdown (21)

Valleywag (1137) permalink
If Silicon Valley is mentally disconnected from this week's Wall Street mess its because ad-supported companies dominate the Valley these days and they will not be immediately impacted by the demise of Lehman Brothers or Merrill Lynch. Lehman spent just $501,900 on offline and online ads in the first half of 2008 and Merrill Lynch, which has a much larger consumer-facing business, still only spent $38 million online and off during all of 2007. Still, ...Shared by aholmes360 (2) Benjamin (459) Dan Frommer (2) david miron (0) Deborah Petersen (964) Digg Boss (21) Dragos Pirvu (656) DrFu (38) guy (431) Guy (114) Jay Liew (61) Jere Clancy (20) Kate (227) Kristen (18) Mr. BabyMan (486) Muhammad Saleem (229) neal (402) Reg Saddler (Zaibatsu) (828) Ritu (640) RyneNelson (41) Tal Siach (499)Contribute comment -
Apple Screws Another iPhone App Developer (3)
on
Silicon Alley Insider (758) permalink
As we've said before, Apple's iPhone app store is Apple's app store, which means it can block any app it wants for any reason it wants. That's the deal, and developers knew that from the beginning. But Apple's (AAPL) iPhone app vetting strategy -- a black box, with little to no communication with developers -- continues to reinforce the need for a better set of guidelines, a better feedback loop, and some kind of appeals ...Contribute comment -

You had to know Jon Stewart would have a big week during the Republican National Convention. And he did. He also had a big week on the Web: traffic to TheDailyShow.com set a record during the RNC and with 3.5 million views and counting Stewart's "Sarah Palin Gender Card" has become Stewart's most-watched video on the site, ever. No surprise: Hitwise's Bill Tancer noted for two days last week Palin was the most searched-about political ...Shared by Dan Frommer (2) rzklkng (202)Contribute comment - Most Powerful U.S. Fashion Magazine Editors (1)

The GeoEye satellite that Google will use to provide mapping imagery at 50-centimeter resolution successfully blasted into space today. So don't leave your underwear lying all over your lawn. Andy Plesser of Beet.TV put together a cool video animation (below). Ustream.tv ups the oversharing ante by streaming live birth (7)
permalinkStephen is the proprietor of The Tech Buzz, and normally uses his Ustream.tv account to broadcast the unboxing of new gadgets. Think of this as more of a meatware unboxing, or "unvadging" if you will. Certainly raises the stakes on the woman who tweeted her birth. Also, I'd like to take a moment to thank my mom for her foresight in giving birth to me long before this kind of thing was technically feasible.Shared by AJ Vaynerchuk (1) Ben Parr (19) Dan Frommer (2) Ed Kohler (25) ev98 (19) Floyd Bogart (61) Mark Bao (0)Contribute comment

Google Launches Cloud Operating System And Calls It Browser (25)

Back in the days when Microsoft was an unabashed monopoly, the company's strategy was "link and lever"--as in link new products to the Windows operating system and lever them into a dominant market position. Those who once used the market-leading Lotus 123, Notes, WordPerfect, and other programs will remember how effective this strategy was. When Microsoft rolled out its first web browser, in 1995 (or thereabouts), it "linked and levered" again--by building Internet Explorer into ...Shared by -ds (16) a48 (22) Babychen Mathew (338) Brian Cuban (113) Cai Chen (6) Dan Frommer (2) danliebke (52) Daryl (2) Digg Boss (21) Donna DeClemente (4) Drew Olanoff (127) Eric Peloquin (0) GeniusBoyWonder (27) Joe (115) John C Abell (2) Leena (1058) Mark Glaser (15) Mikael (26) Mitchell Tsai (51) mr94 (22) Narayanan Hariharan (62) pmccarthy (8) Ritu (640) Tobias Verhoog (40) vlvl (24)- a48 said: comic внушает
