I recently had the opportunity to learn more about TiVo’s award-winning remote control when I met with their Senior Director of Consumer Engineering Paul Newby, father of the TiVo remote. Aside from hearing the story of how the remote slowly sprouted into the "Peanut," I found out some unknown stories behind the clicker. Stuff like TiVo butting heads with Sony, rare remote colors that no one outside TiVo will ever own (or see until now). ...

The new iPhone 3G is a surefire winner for anyone who doesn’t have an iPhone yet. It’s not such a sure thing for people with existing iPhones. Most iPhone owners wouldn’t have jumped at this year’s model no matter how much improved it was, because most iPhone owners have the common sense not to buy a new phone less than a year after spending $400 (or more) on their present one. For the rest of ...

OK, one of my questions has been answered and it isn't what I was hoping for. According to the AT&T press release, the new iPhone 3G data plan will actually increase US$10/month to US$30/month. In addition you will need a voice plan starting at US$39.99/month so the total monthly fee to use an iPhone 3G will increase US$10/month or US$240 over the life of the new 2-year contract.

This is painful. Especially for a family like mine with 2 iPhones. I expect it will be $20/month more for us. This is a 3G tax and one that shouldn't exist-- cell costs should be going downward, not upward.

By Karen Grünberg, Google Mac TeamWe're happy to tell you that starting today, it's easier to sync up your contact lists. The Address Book application in Mac OS X 10.5.3 now lets iPhone users sync their Address Book with Google Contacts. To try it, go to the Address Book menu, choose Preferences, and then check Synchronize with Google. It'll ask for your Google account and password, then automatically update your contacts every time you sync ...

Except it's only for iPhone and iTouch owners. And Apple isn't smart enough to figure out that just because I let my friend Mark Jaquith charge his iTouch on my MBP at SXSW, that doesn't mean I own one - so stop showing the Sync with Google option - which is only available to Mac owners who have ever had an iphone or itouch connect to their systems.
