Here are a couple of accounts of commercial airline pilots, one of whom has been put on the TSA's no-fly list and the other is on the terrorist watch-list, for reasons that no one will disclose. A Gulf War veteran and his wife say they've been unfairly placed on a federal list that limits their commercial flight access and threatens his job as a commercial pilot. To fight back, the couple, who are Muslim, filed ...

A TSA inspector decided to get a closer look at some American Eagle jets at O'Hare, so he climbed up on them, using a fragile, vital instrument (the Total Air Temperature probes) as handholds. He damaged the craft so badly that the regular maintenance crew grounded them -- and if they hadn't noticed, the lives of everyone on-board could have been endangered. Remember, folks, the "S" in TSA stands for "Security." Citing sources within the ...

I've actually talked about this sort of thing for years now, and since I wrote a post last year about using Textmarks as my mobile business card I've gotten at least a couple dozen emails and pings about the idea. And I think at least once a month, I get notified that Textmarks has sent my details off to some random phone number somewhere, and I after I wait for a bit to see if ...

Joe Francis, founder and CEO of the Girls Gone Wild empire, filed a suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, alleging that a federal judge worked with opposing attorneys to coerce him into signing a 2007 settlement agreement with the families of three underage girls who were illegally featured baring their breasts in an edition of GGW. Joe says he was under disrest when he agreed to pay the families off and they should ...

This isn't the first time we have seen a cellphone charger that is powered by kinetic energy, but the difference is that M2E is working on a charger that can produce 300 to 700% more juice than current technologies. They hope this will translate into a full-on replacement for cellphone batteries somewhere down the line. According to earth2tech, M2E's short term goal is to develop a charger that will produce an hour of talk time ...

Sarah Varney of NPR's "All Things Considered" tested out the Kinoki body-detoxifying footpads currently making the rounds of late-night infomercials, to see if they really eliminate "heavy metals and metabolic waste." She and her husband used them for a night, and by the next morning the pads were covered in disgusting black gunk, as advertised. But then she took them to a lab for chemical analysis to learn exactly what was going on. The results? ...

Filed under: HTCHTC's already done a terrific job of going from anonymous Asian ODM to a major name player in the cellphone game, and it sounds like the company's aiming for the next level -- in an interview with the Commercial Times, CEO Peter Chou said the goal is to become one of the top three to five handset makers in the global market. That's a pretty aggressive target for a smartphone manufacturer -- competitors ...

The wait for Windows Mobile 6.1 for the AT&T Tilt continues. We already know that it's coming soon, since we already reported that the download page is up, but it points to an already existing, Windows Mobile 6 ROM. Annoying Good news is the wait is nearly over -- an anonymous tipster tells us that we can expect the 6.1 ROM for the Tilt to officially drop one week from today, on August 26th. In ...

Televisions may be flying off the shelves, but U.S. sales of mobile phone handsets declined about 13 percent over the last year, according to a Tuesday report from The NPD Group. "Quarterly unit-sales of handsets fell to their lowest level, since NPD begin tracking the category in 2005," Ross Rubin, director of industry analysis for NPD, said in a statement. "Even so, most major manufacturers picked up market share that was lost by Motorola." Motorola ...

Ignore this post if you're getting tired of the "five years ago I wrote about blah blah blah" as this is another one of them. What can I say? The iPhone is just re-doing a ton of stuff that was happening when Symbian first hit the scene years ago and it reminds me of the olden days when I was young, smartphones were new, and the future was teeming with possibilities. The ultimate Microsoft fanboy concept, Fenêtres 3.1 (or the Windows Window as we're insisting on calling it) is a normal house window decorated with all of the accouterments of the classic Windows 3.1 OS (along with the placeholder background from Windows XP). And yes, pulling down the blinds even brings up the dreaded BSoD. The designer truly thought of everything, except it's missing the boot disk you'll need to actually open the window or anything ...

HTC seems to be moving forward with its "one port for everything" plan. That means that if you want to use your own 3.5mm or 2.5mm headphones, you're really out of luck, unless you're using HTC's proprietary headphones or you use a converter jack. I found this listed as an accessory in the packaging of the Touch Pro and thought it to be particularly interesting. This is the HTC YC A200 Multifunction Audio Cable. It ...
