I had a great interview today with Google's economist-in-residence Hal Varian on the economics of free. He pointed me to a 2004 paper he wrote on the changing economics of content and copyright in a digital world. It includes 14 business models that allow content creators to make money even if they cannot stop the content from being distributed for free. Here they are: "Most information is born digital and that digital information is typically ...Shared by Cast42 (10) charleshudson (3) Christopher (47) Enrique Pañeda Reinlein (8) FlorinGrozea (20) foolarch (73) Fred Schechter (53) Gaurav (4) Guilherme Neumann (4) Jason (27) Juha (2) Loki (2) marcell (12) Martin Thörnkvist (2) Miguel Caetano (42) pankaj (11) pseudoTechie (14) Rich Karpinski (16) rob (10) Simon Phipps (6) tadhgk (5) TNLNYC (4)Contribute comment -

Today we launched Radio Pop, a social network around BBC radio. Its a project which has been around for over a year now and its great to finally get it out for people to start playing with. Listening to BBC radio through Radio Pop gives you some (hopefully) interesting information and what you’ve been listening to and what your friends have been listening to. To be honest, I was going to headline this article "Toshiba Magic Waving Handy-Spanky-Fingery Gestures Are Perfect for Harry Potter and Online Porn Users," but I decided against it at the last minute for obvious reasons, even when I had two powerful arguments in favor. You will understand them when you watch Helga—the Good Toshiba Witch of West Berlin—and myself in the video: Argument Número Uno: apparently this gestures-in-the-air control requires real magic powers. Nintendo doesn't exactly advertise it, but the remotes for the Wii gaming console—including the balance board that comes with Wii Fit—have Bluetooth capabilities. That means you can connect your Wii peripherals to your computer to operate the media center hooked to your TV, play emulated games with a Nunchuk, Classic Controller, or even a Balance Board, and pretty much have them do anything you can do with a keyboard. There has been a lot of speculation recently about an impending update to iTunes. Version 8.0, among other things, is supposed to finally bring a recommendation engine to the digital media player application. While that's interesting from a music discovery perspective, it is even more interesting to consider what this could mean in terms of an iTunes+iPhone based social networking experience. iTunes (launched 2001) and the iTunes music store (launched 2003) have come a long ...Shared by adam (666) Adam Maldonado (109) Aleksander (5) Alex France (114) Andrew (2) andrew (17) ani625 (57) Baldo (7) Ben (2) Ben Shoemate (4) Brian Cuban (1041) Cast42 (10) Ch (79) chachra (2) Chad Ayers (2) Dean Clark (62) Dennis Bjørn Petersen (12) dffrnt (22) Dominic Foster (266) Duncan (66) eman (0) Eric Chen (66) godlaugh (5) Jamie McGibbon (59) Jan (7) Jerome (4) Jesse (8) Jim (0) Jonathan Wilson (3) Jordan (271) kan65535 (3) Kevin Federline (197) Liam Bresnahan (2) Manny (39) Mao Yu (21) Matt Lopez (43) mattlopez (40) McBilly Wilford Sy (37) MG (25) Michael K Pate (0) Miguel Caetano (42) Mike (2) Mike F (338) Mike McCarron (13) Mike Troiano (1) Narayanan Hariharan (123) Neil Koivu (7) Nick DeMartino (10) Nikollas Ordway (55) onefish2 (8) partout (18) Patrick (77) paul (2) Rey Ramos (8) Robert Sefer (5) Rodrigo Leme (2) Ryan Lewis (65) RyneNelson (191) sarahintampa (79) Scott (2) Sébastien (11) Seth G (34) Steve (9) Steve Nimmons (58) stuart brown (5) symtym (11) Travis (24) Trebel (15) wcaw (48) Xiaocong Cao (4) Yung-Hui Lim (62)Contribute comment -
