Relatively rich (24)

Social scientist Dalton Conley on how rich people are now working longer hours than poor people in America. This is a stunning moment in economic history: At one time we worked hard so that someday we (or our children) wouldn't have to. Today, the more we earn, the more we work, since the opportunity cost of not working is all the greater (and since the higher we go, the more relatively deprived we feel). In other ...Shared by Aaron (1) aElian (18) Andy (7) cat_aidg (7) cisellis (25) Corbie (18) dasmart (23) Doug (16) Eduo (56) Flash (5) Harper (94) howardweaver (4) Jacob W (25) Jeff (10) John-Michael Oswalt (10) Jon (23) Josh (26) Jrod (68) Nav (22) roedward (68) sarahintampa (109) Sunil Garg (2) TheFlamingoKing (9) Zaki (63)- Jeff said: Interesting, though I'm not comfortable with Jason's statement that the middle and upper middle classes are working harder...
- Jon said: This ignores that we work a lot because we get satisfaction from doing so, and having more money provides me with more opportunities to pursue "work" that interests me.Additionally, the opportunity cost argument is weak...Time is scarce, and money has diminishing returns. As I have more money, and less time left (alive) my value of an additional dollar falls and my value of time rises.

Sometime during the eighteenth century -- the time varies according to location -- the grim death's head designs are replaced, more or less quickly, by ...- Jacob W said: Fletch, you have never been more of a nerd.
