In the anticipated release of Google’s new and improved Picasa, the company will offer facial recognition technology to help you identify friends and family in your pictures without requiring you to tag them by-hand each time you see them. Launching at noon PDT today, Picasa’s facial recognition technology will ask you to identify people in your pictures that you haven’t tagged yet. Once you do and start uploading more pictures, Picasa starts suggesting tags for ...

Google announced their browser Google Chrome to be available on Tuesday, but their download page and tour was already partly available at gears.google.com/chrome/ just now, as Uval in the forum noticed. While the download itself didn’t work when I tried, I was able to extract some screenshots, from the frontpage but also the YouTube videos. And while the product tour videos themselves seemed to require a special group membership at YouTube, the video still previews ...

There had been a lot of speculation on this for a long time, but it looks like it's true after all. I kind of have my doubts as to how well Google might do with it. Gaining browser market share is not an easy thing and forget about monetization. I don't know that anyone has ever even really made any direct or remotely indirect money with developing a browser.

Let me begin by making clear that I am a Democrat. While some may think my opinions are too moderate or not in step with the "progressive" nature of the party the bottom line is I will be voting for the same guy in November as others in my party--Barack Obama. What bothers me lately though is how my party seems to brush off things like the recent Paris Hilton ads against Barack Obama by ...

We all love The Dark Knight right? Even you at the back yes? Well you’re obviously not your typical Japanese movie-goer then as the film has apparently flopped over in the land of the rising sun. The main reason why seems to be the “dark” nature of the movie intoned in the title. The Dark Knight has been the bigest movie of the year so far, and is very unlikely to be beaten for box-office ...

We try to do our best to stay away from terrible rumors like this, but this one was way too fun to pass up today. This story is unfortunately quite legit - but it's not actually getting made. Apparently Brett Ratner, the man who ruined X-Men: The Last Stand, did actually say in an interview that "I would love to do a Guitar Hero movie, if Activision would ever let me." Thankfully they're not letting ...

A fresh face for more of the same: Palin (far left) admiring Bush ::: ::: ::: For most of the day, the media has been obsessing over one question about McCain's selection of Sarah Palin: "How will it play?" But as Joe Sudbay points out, the real question is whether or not Sarah Palin is ready to be President of the United States. And if, as Joe argues, she's not ready to be President of ...

When I first went out to Montana in 2000, most people I knew in politics had no idea who Brian Schweitzer was, much less that he had a shot to win a statewide office in the then-red Rocky Mountain West. When I told my book publisher I was going to devote a whole chapter in my new book to my time working with Schweitzer, they were intruiged. Now, thanks to Schweitzer's Democratic convention speech last ...
