Gnip CEO's Goal: Make Twitter's Data Flow Suck Less (14)
on louisgray.com (922) permalinkData publishers and data consumers can be both friends and enemies, when it comes to the seemingly infinite demand for and growth of real-time data from Web services. Services like Digg, Flickr, Del.icio.us and Twitter are happy to see their user bases expand, and to see developer communities be built around their products. But with each new application hitting their API, and each new user, comes new demand that can put strain on their infrastructure, ...Shared by AJ (1214) Alex (109) atul (513) charlie anzman (377) Denis Gobo (35) dobata (1581) kcearns (66) louisgray (702) matthooper (29) Mike F (2195) Rob (378) sarahintampa (390) smdahlen (45) Yung-Hui Lim (135)Contribute comment

How much time are you wasting on Twitter? (13)
on Scobleizer -- Tech geek blogger (757) permalinkThey bill themselves as the “anti-Twitter.” What is it? It’s RescueTime, a service that keeps track of what you spend your time on. The Problem with Trying to "Spread Virally" (11)
on Dare Obasanjo aka Carnage4Life (186) permalinkOne of the problems you have to overcome when building a social software application is that such applications often depend on network effects to provide value to users. An instant messaging application isn't terribly useful unless your friends use the same application and using Twitter feels kind of empty if you don't follow anyone. On the flip side, once an application crosses a particular tipping point then network effects often push it to near monopoly ...Shared by b (211) Denis Gobo (35) g b (103) Laurent (17) Mike F (2195) Mike O'Hara (33) Nate (216) tig (159) Tinu (182) Todd McKinney (19) Uno (88)

Iran Threatens to Photoshop Israel from Map (9)
on ScrappleFace (27) permalink(2008-07-12) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his nation’s missile tests this week are part of a previously-secret plan to “Photoshop Israel from the map.” Images of the missile tests showed apparently-real, as well as computer-generated duplicates of Shahab missiles, which Iran claims have a range of up to 1,250 miles — long enough to strike Israel — a claim which has since been questioned by Western arms experts. Spartan Programming (100)
