By Tim Hockin and Aaron Durbin, Platforms Software TeamOne of the most difficult and tedious things we do here in the Platforms Team is figure out what is going wrong with a new piece of hardware. Generally that means we need to examine a bunch of hardware registers and see how the device is configured. If you've never had to do this, let us assure you - it isn't much fun, especially when you have ...- Karpuscul said: Google работает с железом ?! Хм... Однако...

Management guru Peter Drucker noted that companies attracting the best knowledge workers will "secure the single biggest factor for competitive advantage." We and other forward-looking companies put a lot of effort into hiring such people. What are we looking for?At the highest level, we are looking for non-routine problem-solving skills. We expect applicants to be able to solve routine problems as a matter of course. After all, that's what most education is concerned with. Jack Spine writes "The Linux Foundation has published a how-to document for developers who want to negotiate the hidden shoals of open source. According to both the Linux Foundation and the Open Source Consortium, developers can get frustrated with the processes in open source coding, especially for enterprise-class projects like Linux. 'A guide to the kernel development process' aims to encourage participation from new programmers by explaining what's involved. Some developers and businesses attempting to ...- John said: Very cool. Looks like a good introduction. I particularly liked that it included some information on code checking and patch review. Sometimes just knowing who to talk to and where to find them is enough, and this guide certainly covers that.

When REST Doesn't Scale, XMPP to the Rescue? (38)

There was an interesting presentation at OSCON 2008 by Evan Henshaw-Plath and Kellan Elliott-McCrea entitled Beyond REST? Building Data Services with XMPP PubSub. The presentation is embedded below. We knew the web was big... (164)

We've known it for a long time: the web is big. The first Google index in 1998 already had 26 million pages, and by 2000 the Google index reached the one billion mark. Over the last eight years, we've seen a lot of big numbers about how much content is really out there. Recently, even our search engineers stopped in awe about just how big the web is these days -- when our systems that ...Shared by aemkei (32) Alec Resnick (29) Alex Trafford (33) Andrew Bruce Smith (36) Andy (10) Anthony (34) Antonio Ortiz (40) Appu (19) Arvind (13) atul (153) Avinash (15) Aydin (15) Ben Shoemate (64) Bernhard Jodeleit (4) Brandon Bloom (20) Breyten (1) Bruce (7) Caleb Elston (0) Carlos Pinto (10) CB (30) Charlie (9) cheewu (14) chills (8) chimeric (22) Chris Boran (0) Chris Fried (19) Chris Gurney (26) Chris Qie (2) Christian (62) chstdu (14) Chuqui (20) Compuwizard123 (40) Daiko (24) Dan Rua (0) danb420 (42) daniele rollo (11) Darren (14) Data Vortex (20) David Bradley (38) Deep.ed (62) Diego (17) diffus (20) Dimitar D (21) doransky (49) Edin (32) Edouard (31) ema (20) Ernest (0) Ernie (18) Ethan (20) Faraz (10) fmanjoo (17) Fumi (35) G$ (19) Gary (5) Gonzalo Lopez (7) Grandje5ter (27) Greg (8) Gregory (19) guercheLE (49) henry (18) History of Blogging (147) Ingo (12) Ion (0) Ionut (20) Jake (9) Jakob (70) James and Tom (32) James Forbes Keir (23) Jason (18) Javed (155) Jay Deragon (0) jccamus (16) Jeff (61) Jeff (10) Jill (42) JLH (3) John Gunn (0) Jorg (4) Jorriss (22) Josh (4) Journ (20) jtuchscherer (12) jv (11) kan65535 (24) Kerk (9) Kirby Witmer (31) Krazy (468) Lantash (20) Lerch (25) Linkletter (20) livibetter (19) louisgray (169) lrunejensen (13) luke (4) macbeach (14) Magnus J (9) Matt McGee (37) MaXCoDeR (12) Mic (18) Michael (28) Michael Johnson (0) Michael Neel (18) Miguel (4) Mike F (651) Mike Reardon (20) MiramarMike (31) Mr. Matt (43) Navid (75) Nick (18) nickc321 (14) Nico B (0) Nilay (18) onurka (0) Paolo Bozzelli (8) Pat (43) Paul (26) Paul Helmick (19) Peter N (15) philoscribe (25) phrakture (21) plsburydoughboy (0) PMinze (56) Pouya (20) prattmic (14) Priit^ (50) Quasidot (52) R (33) rachna (20) Rainer Wasserfuhr (59) Ricardo Acras (13) Rich (27) rjhintz (47) ro11z (50) Robby R (28) Robert Birming (19) Roel (19) Sakib (21) sarahintampa (53) Sean (7) SeanConnolly2000 (5) Sebastian (3) Semaho (21) Setu (13) shakeel (9) Shaun (8) Si (13) Simon Bugler (0) Siva (8) soufron (20) Surferbill (13) Telmo Carlos (0) Tim Disney (13) Tjeerd Jan van der Molen (0) TOMHTML (7) Tony Ruscoe (21) Trace Windham (22) Tyler (21) vcamaral@gmail.com (34) Vipul (174) Wolf (25) yigalc (15) ysamjo (24) سروش رسولی (39)Explore read nine notes- MiramarMike said: And I'm happy to contribute to the 1 trillion pages of useful pages, *ahem*
