Both Valeria Maltoni and Chris Brogan just posted about smart ways to use Twitter for business. (*I’d love to say it’s clever blogger outreach strategy, but it’s just great timing.) Chris’ post is the kind of thing your company’s Twitterers should post on the wall as they get the hang of it: full of practical ideas, examples and humorous guidance on the hows and whys of doing it right. Stick around for the comments too, ...Shared by Adam (8) antmaper (6) benbinary (17) David Ottow (0) Dawn Foster (9) Doug (2) Elizabeth (38) G.Dewald (4) Jeff (5) luisrull (31) Mark (23) Mark (4) Matt Albiniak (3) Paul Hyland (5) pixites (3) RichardatDELL (21) seansean (5) Trisha Jackson (0) TweetCrunch (10) wcaw (74)Contribute comment -
Debunking The Myths of Multitasking [Exclusive Lifehacker Interview] (57)
on
Lifehacker (7120) permalink
In a fast-paced business culture of "get everything done yesterday," it's easy to admire and reward those busybusy people who always seem to be juggling fourteen things at once. But business coach Dave Crenshaw argues that the most common kind of multitasking doesn't boost productivity—it slows you down. In his new book, The Myth of Multitasking: How "Doing It All" Gets Nothing Done, Crenshaw explains the difference between "background tasking"—like watching TV while exercising—and "switchtasking," ...Shared by abbas vahedi (6) Alex (102) Alf Kåre (2) aliencam (5) AndyG1128 (0) benh (52) Bill Glick (4) boozedog (4) Brett (5) Casey (15) Chris (3) Chris McQueen (0) Eliacin (39) Florinda P (34) fmcpherson (0) Glen Horton (1) Gmadz (8) grow (20) happy_soil (21) Haris (26) Jake (10) James and Tom (12) Jay (56) JayCrossler (10) Jean-Francois Renaud (5) Jeff Schmidt (29) Jeffrey (12) Joe (7) johnk (0) Josh (1) Jurr (0) Justin Ribeiro (12) jwmosley (14) khoyot3 (4) KingBee (4) lomodeedee (65) nick4eva (2) Paul (21) Paul Hyland (5) Ricardo M. - Simon said: I've been trying to focus on a single task at a time at my new job and I have really noticed a difference. Mind you, my new job doesn't have nearly the pressure of the old so I can focus on one thing at a time.
- Sean said: More discussion on this ever present problem.
- JayCrossler said: Rich Byrne once challenged me that the more you multitask, the less quality all of your result are. I took that as advice to stop checking my blackberry and texting someone on my iPhone while he was talking.I think there is another story, though - multitasking at the right time is very valuable. I see many people who attend 4 hour meetings without brigning their laptops - and then during the 2.5 hours where their attention isn't needed, they just doodle or try to inject their great ideas into areas that don't need them. I think if we understand that most people don't deserve my full attention (though, Rich Byrne definitely does) then we can all get much more done.Anyone know a polite way of saying, "Excuse me for typing while you are talking, but you're only worth 28% of my attention"?

"There is a bitter irony here. When Beijing was awarded the games seven years ago, the theory was that international scrutiny would force China's government to grant more rights and freedom to its people. Instead, the Olympics have opened up a backdoor for the regime to massively upgrade its systems of population control and repression."Shared by Bjamin (10) Brian Cuban (1084) David (64) Deborah Petersen (31) Emily Davidow (1) Felix Bredoteau (56) Inthenameofmine (406) marilink (14) Paul Hyland (5) тaмás (12)Contribute comment -

How to Lead Change in Your Organization (31)

Change is the biggest constant in today’s business world. Even charities and educational organizations are finding that they need to constantly innovate not only to compete for donation dollars, clients, and members, but to remain relevant to the changing social landscape around them as well. But people hate change. Right? The management literature is loaded with tales of corporate innovation gone awry – product launches flubbed, reorganizations that caused productivity to plummet and workers to ...Shared by Andy (3) ani625 (85) b (45) Brian (31) Clay (3) Dimitris (59) Doug (2) Doug (25) Doug Belshaw (1) Eric (11) Felix Banuchi (7) focsa (9) Fred Schechter (75) Jen (10) johnt (48) Jonas (17) Joyce (17) KnipSter (0) Llwllyn (9) mrplatts (14) nahiacreations (10) Paul Hyland (5) Reub (8) Rob (132) Sacha Chua (3) Sankarshan Mukhopadhyay (3) Shawn (13) Stu (10) Vegard (1) webb (17) yigalc (12)- mrplatts said: Interesting to follow up on later.
