Interesting developments in the browser world lately. Between the new beta of IE8 and Google releasing the beta of their new browser (called “Chrome”), not to mention interesting work by the Mozilla team here as well, there’s as much happening as I can ever remember. Let’s start from there: more smart people thinking about ways to make the Web good for normal human beings is good, absolutely. Competition often results in innovation of one sort ...Shared by Adam (35) Compuwizard123 (16) Gilberto Alves Junior (5) jrm (18) Michel Bauwens (86) myheimu (31) Pål Degerstrøm (27) Patty (222) Phil (42) Terence (6)Contribute comment -

Microsoft breaks IE8 interoperability promise | The Register (22)

This week, the promise was broken. It lasted less than six months. Now that Internet Explorer IE8 beta 2 is released, we know that many, if not most, pages viewed in IE8 will not be shown in standards mode by default. The dirty secret is buried deep down in the «Compatibility view» configuration panel, where the «Display intranet sites in Compatibility View» box is checked by default. Thus, by default, intranet pages are not viewed ...Shared by [Curtis W] (24) Anthony Bossuyt (13) Billy (2) Colin Bruce Milne (5) Dan (2) Dave Metzener (3) Douglas Roy Mitchell (20) Edin (6) ewbrown (4) Informationoverlord (2) Jesse Gardner (0) Judith Perrolle (5) Leo Laporte (1) Lim Chee Aun (7) Mark Cross (27) Mikhail (9) Nat Torkington (24) pankkake (3) pedrosanta (6) phillip (12) Terence (6) Wayne Smallman (24)Explore read four notesContribute comment -

OK, I haven’t really seen a study that proves this yet, but I think it might be worth pursuing. There is rarely a day where a fresh survey doesn’t pop up in my inbox promising to shed light on another mysterious issue plaguing the employment industry. Frankly, I think these polls are getting tiresome. Are the results truly relevant? More often then not, I find myself scanning the survey and hitting the delete button, most ...Shared by shwibbs (4) Terence (6)- Terence said: Those are pretty ridiculous surveys, but they're good link bait? Tanked Rankings after Title Tag Adjustment (2)

A WebmasterWorld forum member decided to experiment with his title tags and made some slight adjustments. Consequently, he noticed a 65% decrease in traffic. Is this the end for him? It's possible, as one forum member says: Unless you are a super trusted authority site (ie you can throw up a page on a long tail and rank Top 3 in an hour), then Google is very cranky about title changes lately. The particular forum ...Shared by Peter (1) Terence (6)- Terence said: scary. can't even change title tags easily?

Paid Organic ‘Site Links’ In Yahoo!? (1)

Yahoo! Search Submit Pro recently added (99% sure this is recent because I haven’t seen this before) a ’site link’ functionality that looks very similar to business.com’s paid links and, of course, there was probably some influence from Google’s first result site links - I wouldn’t be surprised if Yahoo! got the bright idea to add more links to more sponsored ‘organic’ results from Business.com because business.com’s paid directory listings have been fed into Yahoo!’s ...Shared by Terence (6)Contribute comment -
