The app's basic connection-chooser is also more user-friendly than Windows' own somewhat plain built-in version (though that might be what ...

It looks much nicer and is better readable if a paper form is filled out by using a type writer or computer printer. The person who is working with the filled out paper forms will thank you if you do it that way. I once had to check and process thousands of paper forms that were send by post and fax to my office and it was sometimes horrendous to decipher the handwriting. Nedjosoft Paperform ...

TinyURL is probably the most popular URL shortener out there but they are in for some serious competition from bit.ly - a newcomer that is seriously very good. If you share links in emails or the social web, here are three reasons why bit.ly will win your heart: 1. bit.ly creates a mirror copy of the underlying web page at the time of compressing the URL (see example). That means there won’t be any orphan ...

Windows XP/Vista only: SteadyState, a free Windows utility offered by Microsoft, is a handy tool to have if you've got kids, friends, or just a program or two that could possibly wreak havoc on your system. SteadyState basically creates new user profiles inside a disk section kept at arm's length from your actual system, and can go a step further by locking down access to drives, putting tight restrictions on a user's configuration access, and ...

Windows tip: The How-To Geek weblog details how to set up a simple keyboard shortcut to show and hide your desktop icons in Windows. To accomplish this, you'll need to download a very simple application called HideDesktopIcons (available from the post), set up a shortcut to that app, and then simply assign a keyboard shortcut to it. It's very simple to set up, but head to the Geek's post for the full low-down. This app ...
