The Usability Post (67) permalink
We're all familiar with the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons you get on dialog boxes. Simple labels that ask us whether we agree or disagree to the next action the application wants to take. The interesting thing is that using exclamations like "OK" and "No" isn't all that usable. Instead, you should use verbs. Let me illustrate this with an example. Here's a save dialog that we get in WordPad on Windows when you make some ...Shared by AJ (190) Alex Trafford (1) Andy Davies (5) Andy Wibbels (11) Bartek (5) Ben Rasmusen (2) Bita (17) Brian Evans (5) Danny Holland (9) Dave (2) Dave Cheong (15) Dhananjay Nene (8) dk (18) Eivind Uggedal (5) Fabian Mohr (5) fatihturan (68) Iman (28) Inetgate Writer (22) Joris (19) Jose Marques (10) Michel (14) Mike Dorsey (0) Mike F (465) netlash (6) Ramit Sethi (8) rkj (4) S Anand (5) Scott Converse (6) Sheehan (8) Si Jobling (5) Stijn Mertens (4) Surround|ed| (54) Tim (32) umbrae (1) Wolf (22) yoshy (342)Contribute comment -

Check In Early, Check In Often (80)

I consider this the golden rule of source control: Check in early, check in often. Developers who work for long periods -- and by long I mean more than a day -- without checking anything into source control are setting themselves up for some serious integration headaches down the line. Damon Poole concurs: Developers often put off checking in. They put it off because they don't want to affect other people too early and they ...Shared by Abdullah Cetin CAVDAR (60) Alan Dean (55) Alan Kelon Oliveira de Moraes (17) alex (3) Andrei (18) BabaSucks (3) Bartek (5) Bill (17) Bojan (7) Brit (24) Cade (7) Caiwangqin (11) Catto (8) Cem (12) chusemann (4) Claude (19) CMS (3) codefin (10) Compuwizard123 (34) David (11) Denis Gobo (29) Doug (26) Elijah Manor (3) Glen Horton (4) Gubatron (65) James Mead (0) James Socol (4) jasonb (13) Jeff (43) Jeffrey Vanneste (5) jerobins (15) Jim (19) Joel (2) jonezy (21) Jonjon (16) keith (76) Ken (1) Ken Sykora (2) kev (15) kidakaka (0) Kurt (2) lishevita (5) mathewbutler (6) Matt (6) Matthew J Hendrickse (0) Mike (6) Morton Fox (76) Mrinal (1) Nick Campbell (5) Nicolas Roberge (14) Nigel J (23) Page (9) PhatBoyG (14) Rich (7) Rob (132) robin (5) Ron (9) Roshan (9) Ryan Joseph (13) Saul (22) Sebastian (9) shivanand (4) Srinvard (68) Steve (15) Steve (5) Ted (17) tgeros (0) tim (35) Tim (53) TiTi (109) tOMPSON (5) Uri (10) Vashira (5) vevck (12) Vishy007 (5) Vodex (18) xrx (39) Yuvi (30) zapnap (34) Zoram (20)Explore read seven notes- Ken said: Atwood as usual with some excellent advice

Boy what a difference 18 months can make! In my last Vitamin article I was singing the praises of standards based email and encouraging the use of CSS in your email designs. While the browser market has continued to strive for better standards support, a major player in the email industry has unfortunately done the opposite. With the release of Outlook 2007 earlier this year using the Word rendering engine instead of Internet Explorer, my ...Contribute comment -

[Introducing our newest contributor Ted Copewistle. This post is his brave predictions on what the spectrum auction means for the wireless industry in Canada. Everyone is entitled to their opions (for an earful, just ask the real Ted) and conjectures, but we at WirelessNorth.ca think there's some truth in this one. Enjoy. ] It’s going to be an interesting couple of years. Here’s how it’s probably going to play out: The Cartel (also known as ...Contribute comment - TV Tonight: Gordon Ramsay junior (1)

The Sculpture Gardens of BioShock [Art] (12)

If somebody created sculpture gardens outside the undersea city of Rapture in the trashed genetic utopia game BioShock, these strange statues would be in it. Jason deCaires Taylor is the curator and artist for what he calls the Underwater Sculpture Gallery in the West Indies. He populates the shallow waters offshore with haunting depictions of people doing ordinary things — like riding a bicycle. Gradually, each sculpture comes to life as it's covered in tiny ...Shared by aaron (124) Bartek (5) Camtron 9000 (20) Can Özmen (12) Dominik (34) evanc (2) Jayce^ (5) JayCrossler (10) kevinDwhite (1) rOckY (157) Twi (2) Xdroot (33)- evanc said: these are really really creepy
