Why We Still Need the iPhone App Black Market (95)

A year ago, we said that no iPhone SDK meant no killer apps. It came, and the apps are here in staggering numbers. But many of the amazing apps and concepts we grew to love as unofficial apps aren't here, and only about 100 of the 900+ apps in the official store are really useful or desirable—the rest are dupes or just bad. - trygve said: I still love my iPhone, but this is a good read on a lot of the problems with how Apple is running things. It's pretty much entirely from a developer perspective, but it's not technical, and it's still a worthwhile read even if that's not your thing; it gives you a good idea of some of the limitations of the iPhone.
- Joshua said: To me this question was resolved by the inability of apps to run in the background, but this makes some additional worthwhile arguments.
