A lot of RNCC viewers were perplexed last night when McCain appeared from the light of the Obama logo, strolled to the podium, and began his lackluster speech before an enormous green screen. We'd seen that lime green screen before and thought McGrinch had learned his lesson -- it was not a good look for McCain and was widely panned by pundits and the public alike. So, why would he choose that hideous background for ...

So apparently Republicans hate community organizers. A reader sends me a pithy response: Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.

Over the last eight years, our government has suffered a toxic management strategy at the hands of George Bush and Karl Rove: politics first. Loyalty before competency. U.S. Attorneys like David Iglesias were fired, despite competence, for a simple lack of political fealty. Now hints are leaking out that Sarah Palin started abusing her authority early (via the Washington Independent): If a small-town mayor ever ruled with an iron fist -- it was Palin. Eleven ...

Oh. My. God. Giant hat tip to JLFinch's recommended diary: here's McCain's selection for the Vice Presidency of the United States, Sarah Palin, answering a 2006 policy questionnaire: Q: Are you offended by the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not? PALIN: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance ...

How can anyone be so stupid as to even remotely think this was true? According to the Latest Census Figures UPDATED [Ramesh Ponnuru] Wassila turns out to have more people than Delaware—and it has been growing fast. (I can't get the links to work right now but it's easy to look up.) Given that the estimated population of Delaware is 864,764, that would make Wassila the 12th largest city in the United States, below Detroit ...

This is a formidable ticket, and a risky ticket, and not a comfort zone choice for Obama. Put aside the obvious: Biden has foreign policy meat on his bones...He's a great debater... he has a working-class Scranton-bred Irish-Catholic heritage...he knows Washington very well...he has known tragedy in his life... He was elected to the Senate as a change agent at the age of 29. He is comfortable but not wealthy -- he has not used ...

I disagree completely. Biden is either the blandest of bland picks, the pick that Washington insiders and Sunday talk show hosts will love but nobody else will think much of in either direction; or he will be the Dick Cheney-esque experienced attack dog. You can argue that both of these are pluses; I view them as minuses.

CHICAGO - Today, the Obama campaign released a new 30-second TV ad, Seven, discussing just how out of touch John McCain is with the struggles of everyday people. The ad highlight's John McCain's desire to just offer more of the same economic policies we've gotten from President Bush, as just yesterday he declared that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong" and lost track of how many houses he owns. Watch "Seven," which will air ...

Or maybe...This'll be tough for McCain because our current economic situation is so directly tied to the housing crisis. Maybe McCain isn't thought of as "rich," but it doesn't take a whole lot of persuasion to convince people that he doesn't have a feel for what's going on with the economy. I'd say that 99% of Americans know exactly what their mortgage rate is each month, not to mention how many homes they own. (McCain ...

John McCain's convention team unveiled an outline of his nomination week today. It's a first draft; more speakers will be added later. The first speaker is not even a Republican. No Republican congressional leaders are speaking. Few current office-holders. Fewer Republican candidates. Many formers. The list is heavy with McCain endorsees and friends. Few ideologues. No Gov. Mark Sanford. No Sen. John Thune. Monday night -- "Service"Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn. -- Unless he's VP, he's the ...

That means that the official announcement will probably come the night before in the form of a text message to supporters. Maybe it'll come that morning. As always, all ...

It's an article of faith among Republicans that regardless of whether John McCain wins the election but especially if he does not is that a civil war will begin within the party. The first shots have been fired in the international deliberations of the RNC's rules committee, which is debating the party's calendar for 2012. Several plans are circulating, and conservatives, more so than moderates, are acting strategically. They're massing support for the so-called "Ohio ...

He's in Florida, then (Martinsville, not Richmond) Virginia on Wednesday (sted Thursday) and then tentatively he is scheduled to return home to Chicago. Weird for a middle of a week...
