opensoul.org - Home (3) permalink
I would consider myself proficient at JavaScript. Not a rockstar, but I can hold my own. But I didn’t learn it out of a book; I picked it up slowly over several years. So occasionally I come across something that I probably would have learned in the first couple chapters of a decent JavaScript book. Today, I experienced the importance of declaring variables with var. For the unenlightened like myself, JavaScript basically has two scopes ...Shared by imabonehead (70) Matt Blodgett (2)Contribute comment -

Rake is just... lovely. There's no other way to describe it. I just moved our XEVA Framework to rake and ended up with this build script weighing in at only 35 lines: Check out the :harvest task where I'm requiring an external file that's contains code for bundling up the various build outputs, currently just .dll and .pdb files. How Many Levels of Abstraction Do You Care About? (1)

There's been a lot of discussion on twitter recently about Drag-N-Drop (DND) software development, and whether or not that's good for the industry as a whole. Personally, I think it clouds the whole process by making it appear too simple, when in reality, we all know it's not that easy. But it did get me thinking. DND and designer-based software development in general is really just about abstracting away the need to understand the code ...Shared by Matt Blodgett (2)Contribute comment - Confreaks: Ruby Hoedown 2008 (2)
