James Wolcott, on Rich Lowry's "Care Bears and Jenna Jameson" moment: Good thing Palin didn't blow a kiss at the camera or Lowry might have fucking fainted. I'm not a licensed psychotherapist but when you think the people on TV are addressing you personally and directly it's often a sign of incipient dementia.

Filed under: Software Update, Apple TVSo, that was like a really bad, mean, and cruel joke. But it does seem that the recent Apple TV update is bricking some Apple TVs. According to the Apple Discussion board, some users cannot get past the boot video. If the update bricks your Apple TV, it's not the end of the world (well, it is if you cannot do the following steps). One discussion board reader reports that ...

Earlier this week, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) gained widespread attention for her inability to name specifically which newspapers and magazines she regularly reads. “Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years,” she told CBS’s Katie Couric. Yesterday on MSNBC’s Hardball, Politico’s Mike Allen suggested that Palin should have lied and said that she reads “The Economist.” “Somebody told me, she should have just said ‘The ...

Yesterday on MSNBC’s Hardball, Politico’s Mike Allen suggested that Palin should have lied and said that she reads “The Economist.” “Somebody told me, she should have just said ‘The Economist,’” said Allen. “Everybody lies about reading ‘The Economist.’” Ironically, Palin was given a chance to redeem herself on that same question in an interview with Fox News today. Her response? “The Economist”..."

LawWatcher writes "On October 1, 2008, a federal judge in California upheld a class action claiming that Apple and AT&T Mobility's five-year exclusive voice and data service provider agreement for the iPhone violates the anti-monopoly provisions of the antitrust laws. The court also ruled that Apple may have violated federal and California criminal computer fraud and abuse statutes by releasing version 1.1.1 of its iPhone operating software when Apple knew that doing so would damage ...

Witnessing Congress vote to enact a landmark piece of financial legislation this week that a majority of politicians in both parties, the American public, and nearly all economists despise has been a passing strange affair. We have been asked to trust the very people who were responsible for creating a worldwide market debacle to fix it. We have seen uber-liberal Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank and President George Bush on the same side. We have seen ...

Yesterday, Sen. John McCain met with the editorial board of the Denver Post. Discussing Iran, McCain took an extreme hard-line approach, saying the U.S. should “cut off” all ties to Iran, including “diplomatic” ties: Let’s cut off all kinds of credit to ‘em, all kinds — diplomatic, trade, you name it. Basically isolate them. Because they are in violation of solemn agreements that they entered into, concerning nuclear weapons. And so I really believe that ...

Bryan ChristianA few weeks ago, I forgot about Joe Biden. I don't mean I forgot who he was, I just plum forgot he was involved in this presidential race. He disappeared from the landscape. No jokes at his expense, no assaults on his character, no lampooning caricatures of his signature smirk. Nope, he was gone. And then Thursday night, he came back for me. In a major way. I'm no pundit and don't pretend to ...

The McCain campaign's latest television ad repeats, yet again, a claim that was debunked months ago. The spot, dubbed "Tax Cutter," quotes Barack Obama saying, "I'm a tax cutter." The narrator then asks, "Really?" and goes on to say, "Senator Obama voted 94 times for higher taxes. Ninety-four times. He's not truthful on taxes. At least congressional liberals admit they want to raise your taxes. Add billions in new spending. And oppose offshore drilling. Congressional ...

Here's a funny take on Sarah Palin's strategy for Thursday night's debate that's floating around now. It was apparently put together by DailyKos diarist adennak. (For extra fun, check out Kitty Burns Florey's attempt to diagram some of Palin's sentences from her recent television interviews.)

For Sarah Palin, last night’s debate was an open-book exam. She spent much of the evening methodically reading and rehearsing answers from “carefully scripted talking points.” Palin’s notes were largely hidden from plain view, resting behind the lectern where she stood. Because the cable and network television stations did not show a split screen of the debate, most viewers could not see that, during Joe Biden’s answers, Palin spent almost all her time looking down ...

Well, the terrestrial radio companies failed to stop the XM-Sirius merger from a happening with a rather ridiculous campaign against the merger, but that doesn't mean they can't continue to try to cause problems. The latest is that they've convinced Representative Ed Markey to introduce legislation requiring all satellite radio devices to include the ability to play HD Radio (terrestrial radio's attempt to provide a better quality product to compete with satellite). The FCC had ...

But the hybrid-electric showdown comes in the midst of a sudden rethink by Toyota about plug-in hybrids. Apparently all the recent hype — over ...

It's always amusing when people seem to think that geographic borders actually apply to the internet. We recently wrote about Michael Moore's plan to freely distribute his latest movie online, which supported Moore's earlier statements saying the greater the number of people who see his movies (for free or not), the better off he is. However, when the movie was finally released online, and users were told to share it, some were reasonably surprised that ...
