In case you'd like to install the new Windows Live betas and... *gasp* you're stuck behind a firewall where the stupid installer can't get to the actual downloads.

So if you keep up with my twitter or status on Facebook then you probably already know that my 360 got the dreaded Red Ring of Death. But, and I mean but, I am probably one of the few people in the world who is happy that it happened. Why? Well, I was playing Braid when my system first started acting up. Then, it became erratic and unreliable. Unfortunately, since the system was out of ...

I've done a series of four podcasts dedicated to JavaScript over the last month. Why? Because of this rockin' sweet announcement: Microsoft is going to make jQuery part of the official dev platform. JQuery will come with Visual Studio in the long term, and in the short term it'll ship with ASP.NET MVC. We'll also ship a version includes Intellisense in Visual Studio. The Announcement Blog Posts ScottGu on the jQuery/Microsoft goodness John Resig on ...

jQuery is a lightweight open source JavaScript library (only 15kb in size) that in a relatively short span of time has become one of the most popular libraries on the web. A big part of the appeal of jQuery is that it allows you to elegantly (and efficiently) find and manipulate HTML elements with minimum lines of code. jQuery supports this via a nice "selector" API that allows developers to query for HTML elements, and ...

Is this the first time MS has openly adopted an open source library?

Sounds interesting! That's a smart and correct decision and hopefully JQuery can get along well with ASP.NET big families. Microsoft usually directly goes for acquisition like this. Now I have to regard it with respect.

As someone who develops web applications using both ASP.NET and jQuery, the news that Microsoft will be including jQuery with Visual Studio and providing support for it is music to my ears. I can hardly wait for the jQuery Intellisense support to be released.

Very cool news. Nice to see Microsoft integrating OSS in their products. Also, very cool JavaScript framework.

Looks like ths choice of JQuery for the Hui Project was a good one! I really do like using jQuery selectors and it's great that they're "supported" as semi-official libraries now.

Some people watch Wile E Coyote strap himself to a giant rocket and say, 'Why?' Inventors watch the same thing and say, 'Why not?' This is a tribute to the brave dreamers and engineers who are working hard to bring to market the kind of products previously only found in cartoons and ACME catalogs.

I just found out today that the Fort Smith .NET User Group has been profiled in the Apress Fall/Winter 2008 Catalog (check out page 15). One of our officers, Jeremy Sloan, has done a great job of maintaining the group's relationship with Apress including requesting review copies of books and keeping them updated on the group's activities. In addition to the recognition in the catalog, Apress will also be sending us an "Apress tote bag ...

Tony Rasa recently talked about design trade-offs when doing TDD: When “doing TDD,” we consciously make design trade-offs to favor testability. ... we end up with a lot of single-implementation interfaces because of testability concerns and from weaknesses with our tools. When I first started doing TDD, many of the new designs that came out of this practice seemed backwards and counterproductive at first. After all, I wound up with many more classes, lots of ...

You know what drives me crazy? Programmer Q&A websites. You know what I’m talking about. You type a very specific programming question into Google and you get back: A bunch of links to discussion forums where very unknowledgeable people are struggling with the same problem and getting nowhere, A link to a Q&A site that purports to have the answer, but when you get there, the answer is all encrypted, and you’re being asked to ...
